  • My 94 6pack

Well I'll start off by saying, Hello. This is my first real post and introduction. I'm the proud owner of a 1994 Camaro 3.4, with 69000 miles even. I don't know much about cars but I am trying to learn. I live in Perkasie, PA, about 45 minutes north of Philadelphia 45 south of Allentown. Now the reason I'm posting in this topic.

How much would it cost, roughly, to get a sex change (auto to stick) for my car?

Can anyone recommend a good crate engine website to purchase a V8 350? Or is it worth to get the bored over 383?

What are some quality name cams, intakes, exhausts as well.

I apologize in advance for the rather broadness of both of these questions. Work with me though, please.

First off, welcome aboard. You'll find a wealth of knowledge here.

To answer your questions, it's honestly easier and cheaper to purchase a V8 F-body with an M6. The money and trouble is not nearly worth it. However, if you have a sentimental attachment to the car, that's a different story. You could get an LS1 powered F-body quite a bit cheaper now. It's just a thought.

I'm sure others will add where to find the crate motors if that's the route you definitely want to go.

I love that you called it a sixpack haha.

But really just go buy a cheap ls1 and go from there. The market is pretty good for a buyer right now.

Since you are in Perkasie, go visit the guys at Second Street Speed. They can build you a 1,000+ HP LT1, or a 1,300+HP Gen 1 SBC and install it in your car. They built and installed my engine, and handled the M6-->TH400 swap. Tell Ron and Bill that Fred sent you.

Problem with converting the V6-->V8 is the large number of parts that need to be changed. You need a new K-member (main structural support for the engine and front suspension), new trans, new driveshaft, upgrade to a limited slip differential (standard on the V8, optional on the V6's), stronger front springs, etc. You would need a complete LT1 V8 from a donor car, along with the PCM and the complete engine wiring harness. The engines are so completely different that it would be a major undertaking.

That is not to say that it can't be done. I believe there is a thread "stickied" at the top of the "V6 Tech" forum on CamaroZ28.com that covers the conversion process.

I have to say that mine has been fantastic. In fact, it's been the most reliable F-body I''ve ever had. I suppose it's because I use it for what it is, great transportation from A to B so it doesn't get beat on. 225K miles and going strong. Mine isn't exactly stock though. The differentail has a 3.42 posi and disk brakes, 1LE driveshaft, 1LE swaybars, KYB shocks, exhaust and intake mods, wide sticky tires, and a few other mods. The thing corners like it's on rails. Hands down the best handling f-body I've had due to the lighter v6 and that it's a relative stripper with roll up windows, manual seats, etc. It's not a dragstrip champ, but it will hang with most anything in the twisties.

If you want speed, get youself another one and build it up. Trust me, you'll want your original one for gas mileage if you plan on driving any.

                  Welcome to the Forum

+1 on having 2 f-bodys the thing that amazes me the most is the difference in how they handle snow . . .

I've driven my WS6 once in the snow (waited to long to put it away for the winter) and holy crap the V6 takes the snow much better. the WS wasn't worth a crap in the snow . . .
                  Red 97 V6 (STOCK), Black 96 Ram Air WS6 M6 5.0 PRO, skip shift delete basicaly stock, for now . . .

I'll take my shot with all this input on a 94 z28 model, talk to the 2nd street guys down the road, see if they can't build me a mega-motor. Also helps my father knows them too.

got to say, of the few forums i've been in but many i've seen, this group is the most welcoming. thanks a million for the answers too.
