  • SES Ligt after LT Header install

After reading many threads that cover the ses code P1153 which alot of people seem to get, it seems that the reason for this is the change in distance of the 02 sensor from the original location on the manifold. It definatly seems that a tune is in order and needed. Im certain that i dont have any of the issues that might cause it such as exhaust leak , bad wiring or faulty o2, i have tryied 3 diferent ones including the rear c5 sensor. For now i think i will send my comp mudule to someone to tune reprogram it. Eventually i may get a handheld programmer.

A hand held programmer won't fix it. It's more complicated that that. I have a call (email) in to Vengence racing to fix mine. Hopefully it will be tomorrow or Tuesday to fix it. I will let you know what happens.

I met up with Mike from Vengeance racing today. Nice guy. He listened to me and showed me what he was doing which is a nice change from the last guy who worked on my ECM. All he said he had to do was to change the timing rate of the O2s. Right now I can't remember if he said speed it up or slow it down but I am pretty sure he said he would speed it up so that it would switch more so I wouldn't get the insufficient switches error. He also found some other problems with the stock programming that he fixed. And he found that the first guy didn't lower the fan temp setting like I asked him too. I had one other issue that I wanted to look at. The torque converter wouldn't lock up until the computer went into closed loop mode. I guess GM did that to get the engine to heat up faster. The problem to me is when I get on the highway on a cold day it's several miles before the torque converter will lock up. In the mean time the gas mileage suckith. He did something to get it to lock sooner. One odd thing is the computer said the car doesn't go into closed loop mode until 192. We talked so much I can't remember what we did with that. I think we lowered it to 170 since it has a 160 thermostat. The thermostat starts opening at 160 and is fully open at 180. We set the low speed fan at 185 and the high speed fan at 195. After all that After driving all highway for about 30 miles to get home the computer said I was getting a little of 27 mpg. It hasn't been that high since the first guy messed with the computer. Oh and he charged $50 to fix it.

OK long story short you are going to have to speed up the timing of the O2 sensors. I don't believe a handheld tuner is going to be able to do that. You are going to have to find someone who has the software that can tune it. I was able to do a mail order tune for my 95 OBD1 ECM and download the software from a laptop. I don't know if you can do that with an OBD2 or not.

        I hope this all helps.

Stock programming lets it enter closed loop at less than 140*F.
