  • Shoulda, Coulda, Wish i woulda (clutch)

I wish i went with OEM spec replacement and plain old steel flywheel....
My clutch is acting up now. I have 4000 miles on a Zoom Kevlar clutch, with a RAM aluminum flyhwheel.

The issue: Very harsh engagement, reduced pedal travel (roughly 6 inches of travel), engagement point is very low to the floor (about 2 inches off the floor).

All of this began after about 5 mins of responsible freeway driving.

Any ideas? Ima scope it out tomorrow and the next day and possible thursday morning and friday. Depending on how long it takes me (never done anything with a clutch before, but there is a will, thus a way).

    Theres always somethin

I went through 2 Spec Stage II's when I had the T/A. My first one went one year after I installed it.

When you're at idle and put it to first and slowly let off the clutch without giving it gas, does the whole car shake?

      Something doesn't sound right...

I too have a RAM Al flywheel, although I choose the RAM clutch and LT4 pressure plate (from RAM). I also used a bronze bushing instead of the standard pilot bearing.

My clutch is great...no chattering, no harsh engagement, just a great performance feel. I installed it myself, so I know it was done right.

The engagement point should be low to the floor...it's a new clutch.

I'm not sure if the pressure plate is new(?) or if the Zoom clutch is the issue. It is most definitely not the fault of the new flywheel. Yes, it's lighter, but by no means too light. I believe it's 10 lbs less...not enough to cause those kinds of issues. I'm betting it's the Kevlar clutch...

        That was my first though..

Now the reduced pedal travel is another issue...are you saying that the actual travel of the pedal from fully depressed to rest position has been reduced?

The problem is changing. Yes the clutch travel was shortened, but today seems normal. It is very inconsistent between days. Today, at a stop, when the clutch is fully disengaged, i try to put the tranny into 1st and it is reluctant to go in. This happened every time i would put it into 1st
