  • First time in 5 years...busted

    Hi all,
Got my first speeding ticket in my Hawk. But the first in 5 years.
I was tring to clear my mind about my divorce. Lost track of my speed. I was doing 90 but he clocked me slowing down at 73mph
    in a 55 zone.
Only 85 dollars. Not bad considering it was over 100 dollars 5 yrs.
ago. That happened driving home after my fathers death.
Darn rador dector doesn't work anymore so I trashed it. Have to
get a new one. What would you guys recommend?????

don't speed that much anymore myself...except when I'm following traffic to work (everyone speeds then). 9 over is safe in GA...

Saving for a ValentineOne...it's the best, but costly @ $499.99.

Sorry bout your losts, getting a citation don't help much either. Heads up...5 years is a job well done.

I have $40 Bel and a $330 Escort. I used the Escort for 3 months and then gave it to my wife. The Bel is a lot better. Less interference and quicker recognition.

The final blow against the Escort Is that I can't even hear it over my Borla's. If you turn the radio on or enjoy the open air, get a Bel.

If you like tickets, get an Escort.

I have a Bell Express from the 80's 117 db sensitivity on X band. 110 on K band. Still works too.

I used to get pulled over all of the time because I would do the speed limit. Then one time I got pissed and asked the cop why I was getting pulled over all of the time. He said because I was doing the speed limit. He said the only people who do the speed limit were people who were drinking and overcompensating. He said go 5 mph over the speed limit and you will never be bothered. I haven't been pulled over since and that was in about 1985-86.

Geez, did they just let you go each time with no explanation, or did you have to do a sobriety test?

I must be lucky or very careful - no tickets in my 16 years of driving.

Around here in western PA (Jeff might be able to attest to this) they aren't too hard on you. The state cops that is. They are usually very reasonable and understanding and lenient. The locals however...

Most of the time I got no explanation. A couple of times I did. One time I got thrown in the back of a police car for saying my ABC's too fast for the officers likings. The bad part was he ended up accidentally taking my keys. It took 4 calls to 911 and almost an hour standing in front of a Starvin Marvin at 4am in the morning to get them back. A different officer brought them back. Poor guy. I laid in to him big time. He was yes siring me. I had an 85 GT at the time. I turned out and laid about 100 foot a smoky burnout right in front of him. He went the other way.

I've got several more stories like that about bad cops. Just ridiculous.

We should start a thread on stuff like this. I bet there are a lot more good stories out there.

What in the world are you talking about? I have the Escort Passport 8500... I can hear it over my PPC longtubes, off-road pipes, and corsa cat-back with NO problem. Try adjusting the vloume control.

The 8500 has saved me at least 8 times.

I agree with Jay. I have the Escort Passport 7500S and can hear it over my stereo system (12" subs x2 powered by 2800 watts). Escort is one of the best radar/laser/vg2 detector around. It may be a little sensitive but when you use the advanced mode for frequently traveled areas you have one heck of a set up.

The 8500 I have turned all the way up and is barely loud enough in my wifes Accord. It is slightly quicker (.1 sec) at actual cop radar but picks up interference that my Bel doesn't.

I drove around for 2 weeks from NC to MI and back with both detectors running at the same time.

The Bel has saved my bacon for 4 years and the Escort nearly cost me my driving privilages.

The point is, if you have the money and want 2000 options, buy the Escort. If you want 95% of the performance for 1/5 the price, get a Bel.

Something is wrong with your 8500.

I can hear it from 20 yards away from outside the car coming out of stores when the K-band from the automatic doors are setting it off.

That's not necessarily wierd. A couple of good friends of mine are cops in Texas, they say that they hate writing tickets. Most cops do. They would rather be stopping drunks, getting into foot/car chases, and exciting stuff like that. One of them has told me that he won't pull anyone over for speeding unless they are doing over 15 over. My advice is just be as respectful to them as possible and admit that you were speeding, if you were, and from my experience they will just tell you to slow down and let you go.
