  • Differential Bearing Replacement

How hard is it to change the pinion and carrier bearings in a 95 Camaro?

It's an awful job if you don't have a press and associated tools. It's basically a rear end rebuild and you had better know how to do that too.

I can get bearings pressed on and off......what associated tools do I need?

Do you know how to setup gears? You will at least need a dial indicator and some expertise. It's hard to do by people that know how to do it.

Don't forget a pinion depth checker also. Setting up gears is "black magic"..... leave it to the pro's.

A bunch of shims, impact tools, dial indicator, the gear marking compound, and lots of time and patience- It is a pain to do it, but it can be done if you are willing to take everything apart and put it back together several times-

Check a flat-rate manual, and see how many hours they tell you to charge for- I would guess at least 5 hours shop time- and that is by pros who do it all the time-

Yeah took me and my brother about 7 hours laying on our backs. Its no joke and it a total pain in the Arse!!! You need special tools to set the pinion depth and all that. When I got my car I had a spun Carrier baring. I got a total Rebuild kit. I had a machine shop change out those bearings and did the rest myself!

Then you have to make sure your back-lash is correct! Unless you know what your doing, just pay! I know I would now!
