When it rains it pours...
I had the shop take a look at my rear end since it has been making noise along with the transmission and of course it's not good.
The clutches in the posi unit are pretty much gone and there is significant wear on the ring and pinion.
I have 2 choices so far. Rebuild the rear I have or replace it with a beefed up unit.
I will have the specs on the replacement one tomorrow but I do know it will be .373 gears. That would be about $1300 with a 3 year/36K mi. P&L warranty.
I am leaning towards rebuilding what I have. WS6Store.com seems to have some decent prices. I'm going to go with motive .373 gears but am wondering, about the posi. Eaton or Auburn? The eaton is about $50 more. Can anyone tell me the difference? Is one significantly better than the other?
I don't intend to really abuse anything but I do want something that is going to last and be everyday driver friendly.
