  • Optispark removal question

Hey guys, first time posting here, but I've been lurking for awhile and have always found a lot of useful information on this forum. Usually just by searching.

I'm the original owner of a bone stock '96 Formula. My radiator developed a crack recently so I decided to replace it and the water pump (noticed it was leaking too). One thing led to another and I decided I would replace the hoses, knock sensor, opti-spark, plugs, and wires too.

I've tried searching with no luck, so here's my question. I removed the balancer, but one of the three "legs" (not sure what the right term is) of the crank hub is pointing up and to the drivers side preventing me from pulling the opti-spark straight out. Do I have to remove the hub, or can I just turn it and the crank a little by hand until the optispark will clear? Or will that cause other problems?

    TIA,
    Ed

Turn the crank until the cast line (TDC marker) that is between two of the spokes is at 12 o'clock. That will let you slip the opti out.

Thanks Rob and msfyter! I turned the crank about half a turn and the opti came right off. I really didn't want to have to pull the hub off. Thanks for the quick responses too. Next up plugs, wires, and fixing the intake leak (again).
