  • Fuel pressure check valve replacement

Tests prove that the fuel pump check valve no longer holds pressure. Instead of dropping the tank or cutting a flap to replace the fuel pump (which still works OK), let just fix the no-pressure-at-startup problem.

This is accomplished by installing an inline check valve (from mcmaster.com) along with a couple of Ace hardware flare adapter fittings between the fuel filter and the hard line. Similar to this:

    Cost under $20.
BTW be sure to use teflon tape to prevent fuel leakage.

got that problem PLUS I threw the right/left bank lean codes. changed fuel filter and the codes happened off the bat and then 2 weeks later (last one not cleared but check engine light not on anymore, even if driven hard)...

is the check valve in the pump?

Yes. The stock check valve is in the fuel pump assembly ($180), the fuel pump has a strainer on it ($11).

To remove the fuel pump, the gas tank has to be removed ($100+ if a mechanic does it for you).

Had one mechanic quote $660 to replace the fuel pump.

What is the inside diameter, and rated flow capacity of the new check valve?

Check McMaster. I got one w/ 1/4" NPT.
They offer sizes up to 1/2" NPT. That should flow enough for anything street legal.
