  • demon in V6 throttle body

145K+ miles, worn shaft bushing, wobbly shaft going to TPS. 1993 V-6 3.4L auto.

Car runs okay for a few minutes when cold. Once hot it starts running lean and chugging on accel, stalling. idles really high.

    -new vacuum harness
    -new TPS (2nd new one)
    -new air idle control motor

with computer tester hooked up and car keyed on but not running -- gas pedal gives erradic readings to computer at idle and miscellaneous throttle positions. sometimes doesnt read 5v at full throttle. it doesn't seem to be a broken wire with zero signal -- just reading the wrong ##. tapping gas pedal a few times brings the throttle down to normal idle when running and hot.

Ideas to try next? are there throttle body rebuild kits?

Also, temp goes to RED when car is started and cold. could that be related?

    Computer freaking out on me?
    bad ground?

    Thanks,
    Tony

Does it stay RED? if so then the temp sensor shorted to ground.

new throttle body from GM installed today -- still demons

finally the new throttle body came in. The GM one has a TPS and Air control valve installed on it ($142 at the GM parts place you all list -- great deals there).

runs smooth until 10 miles down the road then it starts the same BS again !!

got it back home and it was pinging from overheating. Water pump was trashed so got one and swapped it this evening. still burping out air... so might not cool as efficiently...

throttle body FIXED the fast idle problem.

But once it's hot then the bobbling and surging starts up again. no more pinging... not overheating...

      MAP Sensor ???
      fuel pressure regulator?
      thermostat?

can't be much else -- I thinks its almost ALL new now....

      Help -- thoughts???

      Thanks
