  • Output shaft seal question

    Hey guys,
Kind of stupid question, but I have always done it the 'correct' way by draining the trans, I need to save the fluid in the trans, it is new and I have no pump for which to get it back in there with, my output shaft seal has crapped out on me (T56 standard F-body tailshaft, incorrectly sized timken park).
Essentially, would I be able to pull the seal just jacking up the rear of the car?

    Thanks guys

You "might" be able to do it by jacking the rear and removing the driveshaft. you might have to drop the crossmenmber and lower the rear of the trans to gain enough clearance for your tool. I would be concerned about any foreign debris getting in there while you are prying out the bearing. maybe once you are done, drop the rear of the car a little to let an ounce or two of fluid spill out to clean the passage.

Not a bad idea... Thanks Joe I think I'm going to go with your approach, I think ill shimmy a wendy's napkin around the output shaft, a little tucked into the tailshaft, to help with the debris. should be able to get it out with a few strategic tugs on the ol flathead.
