I have a 67 Camero and I need to replace the mufflers. I am considering flow masters but I am open to suggestions. Some one has also suggested Pypes for Summit. Are these any good. I will be running them through a 2.5 pipe.

i love the sound of pypes kit, i have a gibson(not sure if they make a muffler for cars) on my truck and its the perfect sound, its not loud till you get on it and there is nearly no inside drone, another company to look at is dynomax, had one on my 88 ta and was the same as my truck

depends also on how loud you want it to be...I have run flowmaster and they have just a chamber with not much to quiet them...I am happy with my magnaflow mufflers on my 8.1 avalanche.

you should be able to find sound clips online of many mufflers

Flowmasters have a reputation of not flowing that well, go figure. Not sure what you are looking for performance and cost-wise. If you can afford stainless steel, it is nice to do it once and be done with in. Magnaflow comes to mind as being one of the less expensive stainless mufflers. Borla makes a quality product, but you will pay for it, and the name.

Are you trying to match stock, keep it original looking? You can find Borla mufflers with almost in/out configuration and sizing- Some of the older 1st- gen came with chambered systems, too. Some nice ones out there if you google "chambered exhaust".

I am planning on installing stainless. This is my hobbie car so I go with the theory of do it right the first time with no regrets. I am also considering installing a x pipe

I had them put in an H-pipe to balance the pressures when they built my dual exh on my avalanche 2500 as I was told by many that the 8.1 can have a resonance at certain rpms and I travel alot towing...Im not sure the gains of an X-pipe compares to H-pipe.

So many ways it can be done, much depends on what kind of sound you want. How much of an edge do you want?

I do want to have a deep " throaty" sound to it. However how the mufflers perform is more important. i do have to keep the budget in mind. The wife does check the Visa bills. Some things she just doesn't understand

To have a nice clean show car that not only runs good but looks good also. I want the performance but it will not be racing it at the strip only at stop lights

A set of summit racing pipes, crossover pipe (H pipe) and a set of walker turbo mufflers will give great flow and reasonable, throaty sound. IMHO, stay away from flowmasters. They don't flow all that well and the sound can be a bit harsh.
