Suggestions and Recommendation on Cat
hey everybody, I think my cat is going bad because sometimes I get that rotten egg smell. My questions is I was wondering before I go to the exhaust shop should I install new o2 sensors just incase that they tell me that the cat is bad and they are going to change it? Or should I wait and have the exhaust shop change the cat than after that go home and install the new o2s? Any suggestions and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. The "rotten egg" smell may just mean you got a tank of gasoline with high sulfur content. The cat turns the sulfur into sulfur dioxide, and that is the "rotten egg".
I wouldn't drop any money on a new cat unless it fails emissions. When you do replace the cat, there is no reason to change the O2 sensors, unless they too are showing signs of problems. But failing cat does not necessarily mean an O2 sensor problem.Fred
