  • Mid 12's

    Hey guys,

After having the car a while, its time to make a few changes. I would like to have the car run in the mid 12's without the use of the juice. What will i have to do to do this. Will headers, intake, intake lid, pcm tunning from SLP and 160' threm do the trick or will i need more. Also, the car is running alittle ruff and only has 8k on it...plugs, coils, or just the way they are.

    Have a Happy Turkey Day!

i know of a 2002 ws6 that ran 12.6 with just the loudmouth exhaust and the slp lid and 4:10's (m6 tranny).

i dont think the 160 tS is going to make that much diff for ya... im not an ls1 expert by any means..but just from what ive heard. your car should not being runnin rough with 8k..thats nothing in the way of mileage... certainly not requiring plugs or any ignition things unless you have a bad wire for some reason... but no ses light, right?... obII is pretty sensative.......

long tubes, and a loudmouth for free flowing exhaust (i assume you have the stock ss system)... and you just might get there with some good driving, the right tires and pressure..with what you want to do.....

Well unfortunatly i am starting to realize that eventhough the car has only 8k it was a hard 8k. 3rd was already replaced, the front tires are bald on the outside, and when you shift gears, there is a loud banging noise when u engage the clucth.....I knew about the tires and overlooked it but didnt hear the banging when i test drove it. I was thinkin that it was the way im driving it but honestly, it doesnt matter know. When somethin breaks, ill just replace it with somethin better. As for the runnin rough, i already took the car to chevy cuz the light was on. They checked it out and said it was the gas cap. Since then i put in my own gas and havent had a problem. But after the car has been running, it run rough and feels sluggish and i have no idea what it could be.

Running rough has nothing to do with a gas cap not being tight, The cap will set an SES light indicating there is a problem with the EVAP emissions systems, but this has little to do with the driveability of the car. You probably had 2 problems. Stay far far away from the dealership, unless its under warranty. Take it to a GOOD independant technician. My experience with the dealership is that they charge about twice as much and dont do as good a job as some of the independant guys who are trying to uphold a good reputation.

Buddy of mine with a 99 SS ran 11.8@116mph with headers, lid and a Lunati cam. With a 150-shot of dry nitrous, he runs 10.6@126mph. For full mod's list see this link.

For a really good guide to LS1 engine/chassis mods, look at the book by Christopher Endres "Chevy LS1/LS6 Performance"..... all facts, parts #'s and dyno oresults - no BS.

Solve your "runnin rough" problems first. The banging when you engage the clutch could be as simple as a broken tranny mount.... $25. Fix the problems first, then go after the mod's.

Nice...I knew that these cars where easy to make really fast, but i didnt think they where that easy.

Can anyone recomend a reputable mechanic in the New Jersey area?
