i hate to be the one to break it to you but there are a few talons up here that will hand it to most any car they come across. one of my best friends has a very nice talon, with only a few things left to finish it and it runs in the high 11's right now

he is having the head reworked this winter and replaceing the stock cams. it already has way more things done to it than it should.

my only reason for not likeing this car is that it took so much money and time to get it where it is, but then again if he beats 90% of the people he races to the finish line it doesnt really matter that its an eagle does it?

Give me enough money and I will have my John Deere riding mower running 11's. Much rather put half of the $$ into the bird.....

        DSM = Diamond Star Motors.

Word of warning... You better not be stock if you want to take on a modded DSM... especially if it is a short light to light race... they launch with a vengeance.

I kinda' hate 'em... mainly just because of the "short light to light race" issue! Even with my blower I have been walked by a couple around here. (I'm just too cheap to do the suspension and tires to launch properly. ) I am also not to sure they're quite the right stuff (from the factory) to build and race unless you really sink the $$$ in, 'cause like N20LT4Bird said "Give me enough money and I will have my John Deere riding mower running 11's".

Actually the only thing I truly dislike about them is the small size, otherwise not all bad in my opinion. I just aint giving up my TA or my GTP to get one, guess I just like the big, American iron!

Flash - '97 Black WS/6, Intercooled Powerdyne 11# , LTCC Coil Per Cylinder Ignition, OPTI High Voltage Deleted, 160, Short Stick, BMR-STB, adjustable Shocks, PP+ w/scan, !CAGS, Flowmaster 3" cat-back... 43k miles as of Aug. 2006

**-** BOOST, it's no replacement for displacement, and there's definitely no replacement for having both!

I've never owned one so don't call me biased, but, they are an a$$load of fun to drive. Very capable machines. Corner like wildfire, traction for days, pretty good acceleration. Not going to sell my TA for one though.

"Dreaming of Something More powerful" DSMP?

              Riiigghhtt..

HAving owned 2 LT1 f-bods, and one 95 Eagle Talon TSI AWD, I have to chime in here.

The Talon is WAY easier and WAY cheaper to make fast than the firebird. I modded mine to about 100hp over stock, and it cost me about $1,500 to do that. Ad the price of the car (i paid $6k) and for $7,500 I had a ~300hp 4 cyl that ran low 13's. VERY easy to do.

And I take it you've never ridden in a higher HP DSM before, right? Exactly.

If you did, you'd be singing a different tune. Not saying they're the greatest cars in the world, like all cars, they have their flaws. But they definately deserve a little respect. I guarantee if I took you for a ride in my talon, the second I launched it at 5k RPM's and the ACT2600 clutch grabbed - with a chirp of all four tires and butterflies in your stomach, you'd change your opinion on them in a heartbeat.

Bottom line - don't bag on things you have no clue about.

I love fast cars, and frustrating as it is to admit it, I love any car that can put down good numbers..... don't care where it was built. I would hope and prefer that it was American made, but I wouldn't dismiss it just because it was built in America by a joint venture of a Japanese and US/German manufacturer.

I will respect any car that can go fast, and I will not blow it off as a toy just because it doesn't achieve that performance the same way my car does.

I will disrepsect any car with "stickers", ridiculous wings, irrational body kits, and 4" fart-pipe mufflers.... and I hold the same disadain whether its a Talon or an F-Body.

I was hoping JeffM would speak up.... no substitute for someone who has actually owned both.

Line 'em up, run 'em off, and let the best car win.
