  • Finally going to pawn off the little sister and replace it with the big brother.

Hey guys, this post will be a decent length, so bear with me....Right now I own a 95 3.4L Firebird which I've had since I was 16, I'm 23 now. This september I am buying a home and as soon as the loan is finalized for that I am going to finally get the big brother to the Firebird. Right now I'm looking at getting a 98-01 Trans Am.

I have a few questions, the first relates to the Firebird I have now. Just the other day my power window motor took a crap on me. I have the walk through on replacement of it, but I was just wondering where the cheapest place to bt place to buy one is.

Now to the more important questions......What are some problem areas I should look for while in the search for my Trans Am? Is any of those years better than the other? The first of the mods I will do to the car is buy some Zaino and give her the Zaino treatment. Then I will probably have to hold off on anything else for a little while. What are some of the free mods that can be done on these cars? Probably the first major mod I do will be to get a new exhaust setup. I know that the Loudmouth sounds awesome on these cars, but I think I want something a little quieter but still that is fairly loud at WOT. I want that because I plan on getting an electric cutout when I really want to let it scream. What is the best emissions legal header and cat-back combination? Any info that anyone will be able to give me will be very much appreciated.

Also, what is another good site for locating used cars? I'm using www.autotrader.com right now and I have found a few cars available in my area. Once again thanks in advance!

I've used Autozone for the window motors, about $60 each with a lifetime warranty. Make sure to lube the slides with a lightweigh grease.

Looking for a car? I've found deals in the local papers, your big one in Atlanta may be a good start, the little local shopper stuff, bulletin boards at grocery stores, or work, and the autotrader.com. Even the f-body.com has some deals in the sell section.

there are a few free mods for the ls1. all combined you might get a little gain out of them. of the top of my head, theres the free ram air, where you cut out the plastic under the filter, then the bump stop mod, where you grind the bump stop so that the throttle body blade can open to a full 90*. plenty of others at www.installuniversity.com.

another site you should check out that can be very helpful for questions geared toward the ls1, is www.ls1.com . this site along with that one have answered any question i could possibly come up with.

        Exhaust

As far as searching for an exhaust system goes, my motivations were exactly the same as yours. I wanted something that would be loud when I wanted it to be loud, without being constantly screaming. Corsa is the system I chose - it is very modest at normal driving RPMs, and does it ever wake up when you jump on it! I definitely recommend it, I just hope you have better lck with the install than I did.

Thanks for all the help guys.

I got a replacement window motor from AutoZone for only 50 bucks with a lifetime warranty, so that's sweet.

Problem is now.........the web site with the walk through on how to do the replacement is down.

I do believe it was Rob Shoebox or something like that who posted here a lot who did the walk through. Does anyone happen to have this walkthrough saved?

            Thanks again
