  • Putting together a 95 Z28 model

It's going to be an exact replica of my car when I'm done with it! Although mine's a 96, but this is close enough - except for the single cat. Oh well.. Other than that it's going to be exact.

    TOO MANY PIECES!

    Now I remember why I haven't put together a model since I was 12!

Here's what I got so far. The mighty LT1 and T56 combo:

    And some other random parts:

I'm going to work on it some more tonight. Good thing it doesn't have little spark plugs, that'd be a good 8 hours work!

HAHAHA I did the same exact thing with my 95 Drop Top. I even painted the interior with the same color scheme as my real car!!

      Have fun with it.
      No F-Body right now

So after you get it built, how long before you start modding it?

I'm really back into model building (In the winter months). There are some aftermarket detail sets that can be added to models from Revell or Monogram that add a 1,000 or more parts. Stuff like resin molded details and stamped copper parts that need to be super glue to plastic. I'm really into 1:32 scale WW2 fighter planes now though.
I have a Ferarri Testarossa and a pretty extensive Corvette collection in 1:24 or 25th scale.

Cool. I used to build a lot of model planes when I was younger.. Now the only building I do mostly is RC helicopters, and RC planes.. I like to fly them, so building them doesn't seem so tedious!

Cool!! Another modeler. I build them as well. Your work looks nice. I notice you painted the block on your LT-1 silver. Do you have an aluminum LT-1 in your car? Stock ones are cast iron, painted black. The heads are, however aluminum like your pictures show.

This gets me thinking... I need to find a model of a early 4th gen ragtop. Seen any good ones? I like larger scales, like 1:18.

yes, yes, I know. I painted the block the wrong color!

                Oh well..

And I've seen a few ragtops, but most are like 1/25 size. Try ebay

Just on a side note here, in Hot Rod this month, there was a sidebar that talked about how they had a model of their Crusher Camaro built to exact specs. There's a guy that will build them, with everything on it that your car has-wheels, certain hoods, racing harness and such. It would be really neat, but I think they paid around $400 dollars for it.

                    Progress report!:

I worked on it some more last night. It's startign to look like a car! The interior is pretty close to my car right now.. I think it's looking ok. Looks better in person though for some reason?

I also need a smaller paintbrush for some touch up work.

                        Looking good!
I am working on one of my 2001 Z28. I had to stop as I haven't yet figured out how to model the twin turbo set up I installed on the full size car. Keep the pics coming of your progress.

I built a 1/25 model of my ragtop, but since I could not find a 4th gen model of a convertible I made one myself ala Iacoca style--chopped the top off a t-top model.

Keep in mind the chasis under the car is painted body color, not black. I believe our cars chasis were "dipped".
