Can I make a Lt1 powered F-Body handle decent in the snow with a couple sandbags and good tires? I really cant afford to have a winter beater, so id be stuck driving the Formula all year around.

I've managed so far. I'm in the same situation. My car doesn't have traction control. Tires play a big part, but the driver is crucial. Drive very carefully and defensively. Don't be your own worst enemy and stay off the roads when not necessary. Know the limitations of the car. I'm using Blizzaks now and at over $100/tire they're pricey, but very good at what they do. I put mine on separate rims so I can change them out more conveniently.

Have to agree with Joe...the best tires and weight improvements will do nothing without a skilled driver.

My baby was a daily driver and been through Ohio winters, 2 blizzards in Maryland and of course Colorado. I drove around Denver a few years with mine on SZ50ES tires and zero sandbags...never had a problem!

I think the best part for me was E-braking around corners...I'd turn the front wheels and it wouldn't turn...so I would Ebrake the corners! Fun, fun, FUN!

You think driving an F-body is fun in the snow, try driving my 91 SS454 pickup in the snow. With tons of torque, no weight in the rear and some insane rear springs it's almost a joke. But it's actually better than my old supercharged 93 Pace Car was so I'm not complaining. I've decided that when it snows hard, I'm taking off from work. I have tons of time so it's not worth wrecking the truck.

The only problem with loading up with sandbags is it may have adverse effects on your rear suspension. But then again a trip off of the road or into the back of another car might be worse.

I used BF Goodrich comp TA VR4's and never had a problem year round. careful driver and good tires and you'll do fine.

I flew up to Buffalo NY for the holidays and felt a compulsion to buy another F-Body. I ended up getting a 98 TA/WS6 with only 45k miles. Roads were clear when I bought it then the snow storm hit. 350lbs of torque is fun/scray on snow covered roads. 25mph the whole way down the road to my buddys house. Took 15 minutes for a 4 min drive! Maybe i'll just sit tight till after xmas when I get to drive my new love back to FL where it will stay.

my first high power rear wheel drive car in the winter.

LOL yea the snow here in rochester the past few days has been crazy. altho ive driven through most of it. and i realy have not had too much trouble. i guess its alot of concentration because often you can feel it before you are going to fishtail etc ... and ironically the most trouble ive had since friday has been trying to back my car into the garage because my dad has a plow for his truck and that last inch the plow packs down gets rather slick .... but it makes for some interesting turnarounds

In the summer I had ZR1 style 17" rims with 275 40's. They sucked in the snow; worked much like a sled that glided on top of the snow. I put cheap 16" rims on and equiped them with 215 60's which get through Colorado's snow like nothing. If you go with that narrow of a tire and have a manual be careful on slightly damp roads; the tires cut loose quickly. Now the only problem is that the car sits so low it acts like a snow plow!
