  • early MN6 LT1 ragtop, or late LS1 A4 hardtop?

What would you folks rather have

    1 94-97 6speed convertible LT-1

    2 98-02 auto hardtop LS-1

Assume 50k miles on each and mint condition, all other things equal. Price does not matter, just the "fun factor".

I like hardtops and Ts better than droptops on 4th gens. I like the conv with the top down but I don't think it looks good with it up. I don't think the "notchback style of the vert looks right on an F-bod, especially since almost every F-bod convertible I see going down the highway has the top/roof all bubbled up on top from the wind/air pressure. Looks weird and crappy to me. I never could understand why F-bods do that when other converts don't. Poor design by "the General" I guess. It's like the center isn't attatched to anything. Hmmm does your's do that or is it a worn out top that causes that? Just curious. Anywhoooo I'd go with the hardtop auto even though I'd rather have the 6spd than A4. Now if I could only drive it on nice sunny days I'd consider the vert, but since that's not an option it's hard or T top for me......Later

My sinus's eliminate the ragtop. I also like that A4 better. So that's 2:0 for the LS1.
97 Trans Am A4 more or less stock (Mods: WS6 Ram Air with Fernco & K&N, 12 disc CD changer, power antenna, SLP Fan Switch, LS1 Aluminum DS, Borla Cat back, McCord power plate, Spohn tower brace, Sirius, HID fog lights)

Easy answer. While I like the looks of the 93 - 97's better, it's hard to overlook the horsepower advantage the LS1 has. All things being the same, assuming the price is the same, the LS1 is a no brainer. Besides, it's newer, why would you pay the same price for an older car? Because it's a ragtop?

I like hardtops, manuals, and the LS1... So being that the second option has 2 out of the 3... I choose that one.

For what it's worth, the f-body is not the only ragtop that balloons up as they age.

I think a stick LT-1 is a really fun car. Besides the fact they can be modded to be as fast as you want. The exhaust tone I like better than an LS-1 too.

So the ballooning top is just a function of age? If newer ones won't do that it would help my opinion of them alot. I don't like the looks of them with the tops up too much but the ballooning just looks retarded. That is except for the tan top, that ones just blah.....Just my opinion.....Later

What was really slick was my 93 Vette ragtop. It was Dark Red Metallic with black interior and black fabric top. It also had a hardtop done in a custom black leather grained vinyl. The hardtop was a necessity for blasts around the Sebring racetrack. I really miss that car. The combination of the dark red metallic with black interior and top was so sweet. I used to get tons of compliments. But alas, as the fabric top aged, it would start the puffing up at highway speeds. The bolt on hardtop solved that problem though.
