Thought you guys might find this interesting.....Some news from "official" sources....

Solstice Will Be Talk Of Detroit Auto Show

And though Bob Lutz, vice chairman of product development for GM, recently told us that the return of the Pontiac Firebird is a dead issue now that the GTO is here and because Solstice soon will be, AutoHorizon says Firebird's cousin Chevy Camaro is still a live issue.

With the next-generation Ford Mustang set to bow for the '05 model year, the return of the rival RWD Camaro is scheduled for late '06 off a new platform from GM's Holden subsidiary in Australia. An all-wheel-drive version of that platform reportedly also is being developed.

AWD won't necessarily be on a Camaro, however the 6.0L LS2 should be. As of now Buick will also get a version of this chassis (dubbed VE or sigma lite).

SO, the Camaro will have a sistercar made by Buick!?

It will be interesting to see what that looks like. Buick is the highest rated American car company for quality. It is actually 3rd out of all manufacturers, not to shabby!

2007 GTO will also be produced on the same platform...

Actaully the cars from all the GM nameplates are designed by basicaly the same organization. People are interchangable between products. I'm not sure to what extent though. At one point they had a group assigned just to design hoods, one to design doors, etc.. There are always changes to this though. All through the 90's they made huge changes on how cars are developed, designed, and engineered.

That said, I'm not sure exactly why Buick is on top....If you get a chance read "All Corvettes Are Red". 4th gen Camaro is mentioned in the first few chapters!

I think the Buick quality ratings are due to the cars being treated extremely gently, since the owners never drive over 30 mph. Just kidding!

Sounds exciting...I didn't like what they did with the GTO hopefully the Camaro wont be a disappointment. It'll feel different with out the traditional F-Body sister of the Firebird/TA line rollin around. I'll have to start saving up for one now though....
The impala changed alot when it came back...i'm curious to see what the camaro will look like. My guess is they will go with a retro-look. That seems to be the way cars are going these days.
