All books I've looked at have denoted a 24 and 23 for the engine code and mine has a 26 does anybody know anything that could help me thank you I just purchased this car for 800 bucks and it is supposed to be an original SS 350

do you know the entire engine code? should be a letter, four numbers, then 2 letters. can find on right front of engine block--the last two should be either ms, mt, mu, or mv if its a 1967 block. ms or mu could also be a 1968 block. any otehr codes probably mean it's not an original engine

ok-- teh 12637 indicates camaro 2 dr coupe, deluxe interior--if it was built when you think, there should be a 05C above teh ST number on teh tag. The NOR indicates it was built in Norwood, OH. The only engine codes used in 67 were either 23 (6 cyl) or 24 (v-8) according to my resource book. Your vin should be something on teh order of 124377N then 6 digits for teh prosdcution number beginning with 100001 and up. (The 24 in teh vin is the engine code also)

I would suggest that teh only way to verify is to get teh engine code off teh block as I noted and see what it is.

Yep.... ditto for the head casting numbers. You never know what people have switched around.

I think he is trying to figure out what engine his car was originally equipped with and if it was an original SS car.

Sorry -- did not understand that at all. I would suggest that you check with one of the larger regional camaro clubs for your question. Perhaps even super chevy magazine or soething like that. They might be able to help you out.
