    Thought some of you might be interested in this....if nothing more than the fact that some of this should trickle down to a 5th gen Camaro. There was a picture leaked yesterday, but it was from an embargoed press kit and the link was removed. This is for the base Vette:

    Apparently no 3V heads initially
    6.0L engine (LS2)
    4 speed automatic
    Tail described as a sharp edged "quasi Kammback"
    10.9:1 compression ratio
    "Some" aluminum interior trim

    Car and Driver also mentions that the Z06 is rumored to have a dry-sump oil system and aluminum frame rails.

    And now, for the power:

    (drumroll)...

    400 HP @ 6000 RPM
    Redline: ...higher than before.

    I can't find it now but I just read something that said The C6 Vette will have a LS6 350 CID 5.7L V8. Dang I can't remember the HP either. I think it said 400 hp also.

      I don't have all the info on the LS2 to say completely how it differs from the LS1, but suffice to say that LS1 derivatives will go the way of the LS1. 5.7L LS1's are going bye-bye.

      LS2 = 6.0L V8 400HP
      LS3? (I don't have the name) = 5.3L V8
      LS7 = 6.4L (heard rumors of 7.0L though) 500HP range
      Also another engine rumored to be in the 625HP range.

      New engines should be able to accept DOD, Variable Timing, 3 valve heads (might be backwards compatible to LS1's).

      5.3L V8's should be offered in upcoming models of Impala and Monte Carlo....along with the new 3.9L V6 which will also eventually come with DOD and variable flow intake...and NO EGR!!

        Cool! What is "DOD"? What is the 3 valve head? 2 intakes and 1 exhaust or the other way around. Honda had a 3 valve head a long time ago. I'm not sure what the 3rd one was for. It wasn't for intake or exhaust.

          The "editorial" in the current issue VETTE magazine was surpisingly critical of GM for the steps they have taken with the C6..... mainly claiming the price has been raised to the point where only the rich can afford one, felt the styling was too foreign and bemoaned the fact that there was no true "red" color available for the first time in many years. No comments on the engine.

            2 intake and 1 exhaust. The 2 intake valves being operated by 1 pushrod. The LS2 is LS1 based...a similar analogy is the LT1 that was based on previous 350 smallblocks.

            DOD is "displacement on demand". Shuts off unecessary cylinders to conserve fuel. From what I've heard the system should be reliable and seamless. With DOD you can have a more fuel efficient engine or have the same fuel efficiency and increase displacement.

            I haven't seen anything official on the price. I have heard that it should be close and I've seen an article saying it should be about 44k which is right where the current car is. Rumors say that the Z06 might cost a few thousand more. My take is...wait for the official announcement.

            EDIT:
            Found the quote...
            USA Today November 23, 2003 -
            " The C6 goes on sale next fall as an '05 model. Tom Wilkinson, GM spokesman, says it'll be priced close to the current model, which starts at $44,000."

              Caddillac used to have a 4-6-8 engine back in the 80's. It was also supposed to shut down un-used cylinders, and was a flop. I would hope the technology today would allow for a better product.

                Yea after that Cadillac 4-6-8 motor, I cringe when I hear that.

                  Apparently they've tackled DOD from a different direction this time. The result is the same in principal, but the method by which it's achieved is different. I'm no expert, but GM is going to be using DOD on a large number of their products. While I've seen management do stupid things in the past, I'd doubt they'd put this out on a scale as wide as this and on their most popular products (trucks) unless they found that it really works and is reliable.

                  The proof is in the pudding though....we'll see soon.

                    I'm not sure how correct these facts are, but I read on Motor Trend ? that the Vette engine (not sure if the base or the Z06) will be the first pushrod engine with variable valve timing.
                    The Z06 is supposedly going to be 6.6 liters and 500 hp to compete with the Fraud GT and the Viper SRT 10. Can anyone verify this? (Not sure of the validity of these statements).
                    If it is true, notice how great it would be. To get the power from Ford, they have to supercharge it. Dodge uses 10 cylinders. GM will be 8 cylinders, NA.
