Did you guys see Hot Rod TV today? They were supercharging a 1996 Mustang GT. The car had many mods - long tube headers, exhaust, CAI. After supercharging - 286 RWHP?? After a 3K+ supercharger? I would have guessed it to be much stronger.

    Dyno'd 4/24: 330.9 RWHP/ 344.8 RWTQ (Before cam, headers, and pulley)

    Dyno'd 5/1: 383.5 RWHP / 380.5 RWTQ (393 actual RWHP)

It started off at 202. I thought that was pretty bad. Still it was a 42% increase which is about average. I didn't hear which pulley set they were using to get what PSI.

I also thought it was pretty bad that they put the shaker hood on it then decided to put the super charger on. Bad planning. Now they are making a real scope fake.

I didn't see any previous shows on the Mustang but I thought the nickname for it was interesting. "Nightmare"

    1995 Z28, many mods, SOLD

I think the reason for teh name nightmare was that his previous Mustang was stolen and stripped. They started this buildup last year on the show. (And by the way it's Horsepower TV not Hot Rod TV). I also thot that the 42% increase was pretty good for that car.

Sorry - you are correct - it is Horsepower TV. And I agree 42% increase is huge - I just thought they were more powerful than that to start. I would take a 42% gain any day - that would be worth 3K plus for sure - just surprised it wasn't more power than that.

I think the 96s were still pretty weak. It wasn't until later that they started putting down respectable HP numbers.

I could beat a stock 96 GT on my bicycle. They are truly pathetic. It wasnt until 99 they started to put out respectable amounts of power again.

Remember that these were 5.0 litre engines, similar to teh 305 that I have in my 92 RS. Compared to that the stock HP is pretty good however, cause I think my stock HP on the RS is about 175 if I recall correctly, so that 202 HP on a 5.0 Mustang was comparably pretty good but certainly not in teh league of the 5.7 LS-1.

Anybody know (or care?) when they went to the 4.6 liter? I have a couple of Ford-maniac friends that feel that was the downfall in their battle with GM - dropping the 5.0 - but they got the last laugh right? I hope GM doesn't stay away too long.

Actually 96 - 98 was the 4.6. This was the weaker 4.6, because in 99 it got a substantial power boost. 95 was the last of the 5.0.

I believe the 4.6, when it first came out, had the same HP rating as the 5.0 at 215(I'm sure torque was less). In 97 or 98 it was upped to 225HP and is now at 260HP. In the 2005 GT it will be rated at 300HP in a car that weighs about 3500lbs. With this a stock GT may finally surpass stock LT1 performance. Oddly enough the smaller displacement OHC engine that takes up more room than a small block 350 won accolades for it's "high tech" approach while getting whooped by the competition.

                          96 mustang

in 96 they had all kinds of problems with the engine. the valve were crappy. the pistions and everything else just did not match up. its kinda like the 97-98 ls1 had a few problems. i know in 97 the f-bodys still had the lt1 but the vets had the ls1s.
