  • Snowbrushes and PAINT >>

I know this is probably a really stupid question, however, I figured since there are quite a few detail guru's on this board, I could probably get a right answer. Anyways, heres the question. Will the snow brushes that you can purchase at like Autozone cause scratches in the paint if you accidently swipe it when trying to clean the snow off the windows? I've always wondered this, but then I thought that the manufacturer couldn't sell them if they scratched the paint... Does anyone know for sure??

    Thanks,
    Jeff

The problem is a baby's A$$ will scratch the paint/clear coat a little... it's all about what you are willing to live with or polish out later.
I personally have even run my car through one of those nylon brush automatics but spent some serious time later getting the marks and scuffs out. I'd say the scratches you get from a soft brush like that (wet from snow anyway) are not any worse than the sand and salt abrasions you will get just driving in the elements. Don't worry about it unless you are seriously into trophies and such....even then you can "fix" it back with a simple regiment of Zaino .

Doubtful you will scratch anything enough to notice, just don't scrub .

**-** BOOST, it's no replacement for displacement, and there's definitely no replacement for having both!

Thats the key. If your driving it in the snow and salt, the snow brush is the least of your worries. The salt will eat your vehicle alive. If it was strictly a summer cruiser, I wouldnt use anything but cotton (real cotton) towels, like fieldcrest, which is what zaino bros recommend.

Personally I would NEVER EVER use one of those on a automobile finish. The glass is one thing, but never on the paint! Then again, I'm a bit more .... retentive when it comes to my cars than most.

If I must remove snow from the car, I use my gloves or the sleeve of my jacket even then never actually touching the paint with them...just removing enough for safety purposes.

lets face it broh......removing the snow from a car..especially hard pack..frozen icy snow....is a no win situation. mine are garaged..and dont get driven in the snow or sit outside in it....however..one time mary got caught driving home from work in it. by the time she got home...its was packed on. i pulled it in the garage...turned on some space heaters..and let it melt. heck..it still "slid" off in places...leaving some fine spider webbing which it took several coats of z5 to fill.

              Hey Ken >>

How do you go about removing the snow from your Envoy's then? Just curious, because I don't think you have those garaged since your TA's are in there... Just wondering what you use???

My jeep is out all year round. We usually have quite a bit of snow. When it is really cold I plug the block heater in. I also installed a remote starter. So with the engine plugged in, it warms up in no time once I start it.

You do not even have to go outside. Press the remote inside the house and wroom it goes for 15 minutes and then it turns off.

It's also great in the Summer to cool the car down. Especially when we take the puppies on the road and we have to go to a store or a restaurant. You lock the car and start then engine. Real nice.

Of course when it snows a lot there's no way around cleaning it off with a brush. The cover is a good idea as long as it doesn't snow again after you uncovered it. I don't think covering it with snow and ice still on it is a good idea.
