  • Automotive words of wisdom

This is from my buddy CorollaRacer. It pertains to the closed-mindedness of many people in the automotive community who have irrational thoughts behind the opinions that they hold, I thought you guys might like it...

This is an issue that's been bugging a lot of people for some time.

On the one hand, we've got the European car fanboys, who seem to believe that engineering a car needs to, or for that matter can, involve "passion". Trying to tell these guys that an American car or a Japanese car can perform well overall is like yelling at a stone. You're making sense, but there will be no real response, just sound waves bouncing off a thick surface.

Another corner is the (almost disappeared) Japanese fanboy cult. These guys think that anything over 3 litres is a "waste of space" (shyeah right), and that a car being Japanese instantly allows it to have utmost quality and refinement. These are the guys who consider drifting (which is admittedly a DAMN cool sport) a practical racing skill.

There's also the american fanboys, but enough has been said about them already.

But by far the worst group is the one that crosses them all; the close minded. Included among the close minded are the displacement junkies, the unrealistic todgers, and the crazies.

The displacement junkies have become increasingly larger in numbers in recent times. These are they guys that don't really respect any displacement of engine outside their beliefs. There's the ones who hate Hondas for being too small, there's ones who hate the LS6 for being too "big", and there are even people who hate the Supra's motor for being an "inadequate" motor. Internet racers to the max, considering most of these people drive nothing at all, or their parents family cars.

The Unrealistic Todgers are just silly. These guys don't respect any car under the prive of 100,000 that doesn't come from a premium brand. Often seen saying things like "Yo, the Viper can't compete with the Ferrari cuz at the end of the day, youze drivin a Drips Oil Drips Gas Everywhere". When asked what their ideal daily driver would be, these people tend to answer something along the lines of a TVR Tamora, or a Lamborghini Gallardo. Overall, these are a bunch of 13-15 year old kids, most of whom grow up to be euro fanboys.

Finally, there are the crazies. Although there aren't that many of these people anymore, they are the ones spouting that their favorite company is about to dethrone everyone. These guys fail to acknowledge that their fave company can do anything wrong. They tend to cite that one man in the company is going to make the company the best in everything.

So, I guess the bottom line is, love cars for what they are, not where they are from. A fast car is a fast car, regardless of displacement, price, exclusivity, or brand. And every car company and nation has it's benefts.

    Well said.

On a lighter note, have you applied for a job at the UN yet?

I agree, but I'd also go on to say that just because a car isn't super fast doesn't mean its not a good car. WRX's aren't *overly* fast but they are still amazingly engineered cars, and should deserve some respect for that. Good handling goes a long way when considering how fun a car is to drive... not all roads are exactly .25 miles and perfectly straight

I personally hate European they look like $h#t and are way over priced. I could make just about any American car handle and preform just as well for alot less money and it would have alot more class.

curse words are outlawed here dude.

Ouch that heart (he means "hurt" but his "heart" got in the way) Wm

Growing up in Europe I have to disagree with you. As far as class goes I have to say you are dead wrong!

Unless we are talking about two different classes.

Here's a link with a list of fast, classic, excotic cars just for your info.
