  • NFB: New Cadillac CTS-V = 4dr Z06 !!!

I got my Feb. issue of Road & Track in the mail yesterdy, and settled back to read the article on the C6 Corvette and its 400HP LS2 engine. Interesting, but I think I spent more time reading the article on the 2004 Cadillac CTS-V.....

    400HP LS6 engine
    2.97 1st gear T56
    3.73 rear
Brembo brakes, 14" front, 14.4" rear
    dash-mounted G-meter
    163mph top speed

13.4@109 in the 1/4-mile, severly "traction limited" by the 245/45ZR-18 "run flats"..... put some decent rubber under this thing, and its going to blow the doors off many much more expensive "sports" cars. R&T feels its "world class", raving about the engine, brakes and noting the 1.13G on the dash meter (verified) that they pulled in one corner.

A little pricey at $50K.... but less than a "real" Z06.

Looks like GM may finally be waking up .

Some interesting news from the Ford camp.... they now have available a "build your own" Focus RS8. Actually, you provide the Focus, pick up a $14,000 420HP 302ci modular V8 aluminum crate motor, and a $5,000 "install kit" including an 8.8-inch, TORQUE ARM suspension rear, and you end up with a better F/R weight distribution than a 4-cyl Focus. Sdebar notes this isn't a street car, but is ..... "intended more for track use, such as import drags, or one of the SCCA's new Formula Drift events."

I've had my eye on the CTS-V for quite some time...since first hearing about it about a year ago. As far as I'm concerned, it's actually very reasonably priced. Look at the cars it is designed to compete against??? Most cost $20 - $40K more. I've always wanted a Vette, but it's hard to ignore a 4-passenger Vette that's built like a Caddy. Just need to figure out how to afford one...

I like the GTO but this CTS-V has really opened up my eyes....luxury and power for a fair price...from GM??? Who would have guessed...

Actually, I won't be happy until Buick puts a Ram-Jet 502 motor in a Park Avenue, increases the "portholes" in the fenders from 3 per side to 4 per side, and uses them for exhaust outlets

            Gonna be cruisin'
