  • Surface Scratches and black paint

    Guys,

How exactly do you get those little "white scratches" in black paint... I'm talking about the really fine ones, that are only really visibile with ample amount of like... The ones you can't really see from a distance, but up close look horrible.. My buddy has a 98 TA black, and well, we take it to a place get it washed (hand washed), and dried, adn they still end up showing up. Anyways, we live in IL, so we deal with snow and salt... My question is... is there anyway to prevent these? Where do they come from, and can these be buffed out? If I run my finger nail say the scratch is horizonal, and I run it over it vertically, it doesn't catch... Even though it appears white, and a professional detail shop buff these out??? MAN, BLACK SUCKS!!

Have you tried Zaino? My dark green isn't quite as bad as black, but it shows the swirls if you aren't careful. But using Zaino... per the instructions... will make virtually every swirl invisible. Far better than "buffing", which is basically sanding down the clear coat. Zaino has no abrasives... simply "fills in" the swirls and makes them invisible.

I had one really ugly scrape on my hood, caused by a neighbor's large, heavy cardboard box that bounced across the hood in a heavy wind. Repeated efforts to remove it with all sorts of abrasive compounds did not help. Zaino did... made it close to invisible.

I thought the Zaino stuff was all hype.... but after trying it, I wouldn't use anything else. My car is 10 years old, and there are no swirls.... paint looks much better than the day I picked the car up new from the dealer.

Once you get it clean, you have to take care of it.... the Zaino reduces dust buildup, and what dust does accumulate can be removed with careful use of a California Duster. Then some Z6 to restore the luster. When you wash it, use the Zaino car wash product, and use a soft cotton mit, and tons of water to wash away the abrasive dirt. Use only pure 100% American made cotton towling to dry it. Avoid the swirls and scratches in the first place.
