what does it take to clog a fuel filter?

As you know my TA is died...concluded it isn't my MAF. Something tells me to takes to take a look at the fuel filter which I replaced recently (3-4 months ago)...what would it take to clog the filter?

usually..it takes alot of "dirty gas" to plug one up. and drawing from the bottom of the tank all the time. 3 or 4 months (tankfulls is a better calculator) is pretty quick on fuel filter...... what makes you think it could be that?

i missed it.what happend? did it just die? did you stop and it wouldnt restart? what are the details.

it's on an earlier thread Kerm...

but, she just died while driving. Spuddered and died...I started her back up on a roll and died again. Since then she's on the road...and wont start up. Haven't even got a chance to call a tow.

Anywho, talked to Bill Heard Chevy...intially, I thought it was the MAF because was dirty and when I unplugged it she ran for a few secs and shut down again...it wasnt spitting codes, so, I comfirmed it's not that. And service told me a bad MAF wouldn't shut an engine down.

They also told me it could be the Cat...but that seemed far off cuz it's a 99...I've dealt with a clogged cat before and it only reduced power in my 92...didn't shut it down...if it did, I'd assume it'll be gradual...not sudden.

Not fuel pump cuz I can hear it loud and clear...not out of the norm.

Not engine grounds...it's good.

Fuses are good...

Ignition is good too...she'd fire up sometimes and dies seconds later...not backfire nor bad timing. Changed wires and plugs not to long ago.

Only thing I can think of is a bad fuel filter...or low press in the lines.

It's funny, she was fine when I started her in the morning...now she's dead. Not even 3 minutes of driving...

This really stinks...I dont want to get it towed and fixed over somein small.

Gonna start with cheap fixes and work my way up...that's why I thought it would be my fuel filter.

Not sure about this either...but don't the pump have a strainer??? I know my GTA had one when I replaced it...don't that stop debris from getting into the lines too???

when you unplug the maf...the engine will run..but it defaults to a very rich mixture. that fact that it ran briefly... maybe fule pressure.......or a clogged filter could be it.....

I had the same problem. Last Spring I noticed my car sputtering and bogging out on me. It kept building up till one day in the Fall it finally stopped. I remember almost an hour in the parking lot, where it left me, to start it back up again. I took it to a local performance shop near my house and they did all the testing on it. They found nothing wrong with it but they were there when it started to bog so they knew SOMETHING was wrong with her. They suggested to change my fuel filter so a week later my dad and I replaced it with a new one I bought from Pep Boys. Problem solved.

Give it a shot I'll bet you thats it. I had the same story as you.
