  • Vette Wheels

I did a search but didn't find anything with these tire sizes.

I am gettin vette wheels and tires for almost nothing and was wondering if they would fit. Height wise they will, right now I have 245/50-16 which are 25.6 and the vettes are 25.7.

What my question is will the width be a problem???

    Here are the sizes:
    Front - 17" x 9.5" with 275/40ZR-17
    Rear - 17" x 11" with 315/35ZR-17

    Thanks,

A little confusing, since you described the tire diameter, then asked about the width.

The three sizes you mentioned 245/50-16, 275/40-17 and 315/35-17 are all virtually identical with regard to tire diameter, and are interchangeable with no speedo correction.

As far as the "width" of the tire, whether there is a problem depends on the offset of the wheel. It is generally recommended that with the 17x9.5" wheels, that yo chose the 56mm offset, and not the 38.5mm Corvette offset. That keeps the tire under the fender line. In general, offsets of 45 to 56mm will work with the 17x9.5's.

With the 17x11's, you generally need the 50mm "Grand Sport" offset. That, again keeps the tire completely under the fender line when you look down from above. There is also a 36.5mm offset, and that moves the edges of the tires outside the fender line.

Whether there is any interference due to width with the 17x11 315/35 combo varies extensively from car to car. With that combo, and the 50mm offset, I had to:

-cut the corner off the jounce bumber bracket (it doesn't hit with the car at normal ride height, but if you try to jack the car, the bracket can catch the inside of the rim as the axle drops.

-hammer the inner fenders in several places.... nothing that can't be covered with some spray-on rubberized undercoat.

-recenter the body over the axle with an adjustable panhard rod.

On extremely hard shifts (back when the car wan an M6), the body would torque sideways enough that I also rolled the inner edges of the fender lip up to keep them from hitting the tires.

I had those on my 94. Here are a couple of shots. I didn't have any clearance problems at all.
