Just purchased new 10 spoke chrome SS rims, now I need to get some tires for these! Looking on tirerack.com at the bester sellers and found these..

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 YR speed rated, 187ea

Firestone Firehawk SZ50 Ep ZR Speed rated, 176ea

Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712 WR Speed rated, 107ea

Yokohama AVS ES100 WR speed rated, 127ea

does anyone have any of these tires?
What would you guys recommend, something different? I corner fairly hard at times and road noise is not a problem, the loudmouth will cover that up, need something with good handling, any reccomendations??
    Thanks guys!

I have Eagle GSCs on mine. Came on the rims when I got them. They wander a lot which makes it hard to keep in a lane. I had a set of Bridgestone RE930 on the Mustang which did the same thing. I had SZ50s on it and they did not. My next set of tires will be SZ50ep. No others are in the competition. No others compare in construction.

Go for the SZ50EP's, great tires for rainy weather! Saved me on many occasions. They seem to wear pretty quickly though, but the wet traction gets better as the tire wears down. On my 2nd set, working toward my third.

Those are decent tires but if you want a tire that will stick corners very well, go with a Michelin Pilot Sport. Excellent performance tire.

I ... SERIOUSLY.... recommend the BFG KD series tires.

If you want a great all aroung 3 season tire that has VERY good dry traction, very good wet and EXCELLENT wear.... then the KDW.

If you want optimun dry at the expense of some water handling capabilities and a bit shorter life.... then the KD.

I used to use the KDW when I was forcing my tires to do double duty ... both street and road race. They handled excellent on the track.... all of the instructors noted how grippy, predictable and responsive they felt for a street tire. I could do 8 track days and still get 25K miles on the street ...... this is EXCELLENT!

And.... they are available in 285/40/17 which looks soooooo much better on the car. Below, is a shot of the car with the 285s on it. I have more I can email, if you want.

Since I now have dedicated track tires & wheels (Kuhmo Victoracer), I am using the BFG KDWS which actually has siping in the tread blocks and is even better for water and if I get caught in a snow day (before I get the snow tires on) ... at least I'm not wearing ice skates. ..... and they are cheaper than the KDW.

i agree with GG, cept ......the kdw is what i run on the CompTA. the firehawk sz50ep is on the hawk. i think...from an overall standpoint...they handle better in wet and dry than the kdw. the kd's however are unsurnpassed in dry handling..with wet traction being not-so-good......but hey..we shouldnt be driving like maniacs in the wet anyway. the kdw is the old bf good. compta zr tire with the new casing technology from the bf good. g-force design platform. gr8 tire, dont get me wrong.

              just my 2 cents ..

I have to agree with the Firestones. I even agree with Ken, even though he seems to have switched sides.

The deal at the moment is to go with the 285/40/17s as those are on sale for less than the 275s.

will the 285's fit on the car with no problems at all? I wont have to hammer anything or put spacers on or anything? The rims are 9 inches wide, so that will fit right? About how much more would that be? Or is it possible to put 285s on the back and 275s on the front? would that be good, or no?

I had BFG KD 285's all the way around on my 97 WS6 without any modifications. The back's were pretty close to the jounce bumpers but they were OK. I then had the Pilot Sports 285's and WOW, what a difference!! The pilot sports were freakin bad a$$.

well i was looking into the 285 40/17s and found:

Bf goodrich g-force T/A KDW, yr speed rated on sale for 188

firestone firehawk sz50 ep, zr speed rated on sale for 165

So which one of those two? Now these will fit fine on a 98 z28 with eibach pro kit and 17x9 rims right??

For the money, the Yoko's are great. I've had them on for about 10,000 miles. Very little signs of wear, awsome wet & dry traction. I won't consider ANY other tire when I finally wear 'em out.

yoko is known for rapid tread wear...
                            but....

rapid tread wear means increased traction. its a trade off.
if you have a tire thats not showing much signs of wear..then you are not getting that good of traction, no matter what you may percieve...... sorry...thats the "tires way"....

                              went with the 285's.

Well i ended up going with the 285 40 17s, firestone firehawk SZ50 EP. They were 165 each, not too bad. So 800 with the 4 tires and roadhazard and shipping. Now my next question is i know i will need an alignment, with the lowering kit that was put on and now new tires and rims. Will i also need to get the speedometer recalibrated?? If so, do most shops do that and about how much would it be to get done??
