The left as in the drivers side or the left as in the passanger side. I just took off the cover over the throttle and I don't see any coming off of what I would call the left side. Are you talking about the passanger side which is this http://shbox.com/1/tps.jpg picture? The passanger side, http://shbox.com/1/map.jpg has a plastic tube that goes to something that you can see in the left side of this picture where you see that connector.

          Canister purge solenoid.

I dunno if it would cause a code if broken. If my car wasn't in storage I'd unplug mine and see what it did.

The lower/smaller connection is the vacuum line for the EEC canister purge solenoid, as indicated in the response above. In OBD-I cars (93-95) a vacuum leak in this line (or unplugging it) will NOT set a code. In OBD-II cars (96/97) it will set a code for "flow during non-purge". The OBD-II cars have an additional flow detector in the line from the purge solenoid to the throttle body to detect leaks and non-flow when it is supposed to be flowing.

In your 1994, you will NOT get a code/SES light, but if the system is leaking, you will have a vacuum leak.

The upper/larger connection is in fact not a vacuum line, but is ported to a location in front of the throttle body blades. This line supply MAF measured, filtered air to the passenger side valve cover, and this air is pulled through the crankcase and out the lifter valley by the PCV valve on the drivers side of the intake manifold.
