  • Head Unit stays on?

Well, after doing a power window swap, i accidently grounded off a connection on one of the switch panels, (always disconnect the battery), which made a spark, and caused the electrical system to burmp, stereo was on at the time, and kinda hiccuped. Anyways, after that, the head unit stays on when the car is turned off? Its worked fine for a couple years now, kenwood cd player, proffesionally installed, but are there any fuses that could have blown due to this? THe radio fuse is fine. I know with my honda, when certain fuses blow, certain things happen. So i was curious about the chevy. Its a 94 v6 camaro, if that helps. Thanx,

If there are no blown fuses, You may need to replace the RAP module. I bet you blew it up by shorting the system

Here is a picture of the RAP (Reserve Accessory Power) module, and it's location. note the pocket it sits in.

It could be that, or it could be that the grounding locked up a relay. Unplug the relays one by one and see if the radio shuts off.

You possibly could have wired something wrong, and it's engaging the circuit that also controls the radio. Check all the other things in your car that normally turn off with the key, like AC, power mirrors (if equipped), turn signals, etc.

Hey, thanx guys, ill go check that, i doubt its the wiring, sense it was all stock stuff from a z28 that jsut plugged in. Ill check the relays, aand if that doesnt work, ill see about finding another RAP module.

Alright, i pulled one of the relays on teh wring harness, its the one that controls the power windows and head unit. Well, when i pulled it, teh power windows wouldnt work and the head unit turned off. Well, i remember when testing the power windows, they still worked wehn the car was off, but then i heard a click liek ten minutes later, and they didnt work after that. The power windows work now when the car is off, but when you come back after having turned the car off for about 15 minutes, they dont work, and niether does the radio. So i figure the realy isnt turning off for a while? is that normal for teh power windows, or should it turn off immediatly. And if so, ho wmuch are relays?

What the RAP module does is retain power to the locks, windows and radio 15 minutes after the car is shutoff, or until a door is openned.

Well, the stereo has always turned off with the key, it never stays on whithout the key on. Maybe that was a newer thing, this is out of a 94. Ill check though, are the RAP's expensive?
