The hardest part is getting the console out of the way. There are bolts in the bottom of the console "bin", and most likely a small bolted clip that holds the front of the console to the bottom of the dash - varies with year of car.

Once you have access to the top of the tranny, there are 4 bolts to remove. Then lift the old shifter off. BE SURE to save the little nylon "cup" that the stock shifter ball sits in on the shifter rails. You need to re-use it.

Put a thin bead of RTV around the rim of the tranny housing where the shifter sits. Install the new shifter with the ball in the cup and the cup in the rail. Put the 4 bolts in, and do not over tighten.

As I recall, the SLP shifter requires you to remove the shift lever from the stock shifter and re-use it on the new one. That's 2 more bolts to loosen.

I'd say an hour-and-a-half should be more than enough for the "first time"..... next time it will take you 1/3 of that because you will figure out how to minimize the work in getting the console out of the way.

There is a tab on the inside edge of the brake handle that when lifted w/ a screwdriver, will allow the brake handle to come up vertical. Then you can lift the console off of it. It does not come all the way out very easily and is not necessary. Also, make sure not to get any of the old RTV into the trans. I stuffed the opening with a clean rag while I scraped the old RTV off.

You may have to pry a little to get the old shifter off, that RTV gets ugly sometimes. Have fun
