If you had the install done by a mechanic, you may not have been screwed over. The problem is what has to be done to replace certain plugs on fourth gen f-bodies. Like y-pipe, starter, etc. have to be moved/removed in order to get to the rear plugs on I think the passenger side. There are some people on this board who have done the job themselves, and after spending literally 5-10 hours or more, they are willing to pay anyone to do the job the next time. Some of the folks have all the right lift equipment and plenty of time. Me, when the time comes to replace my plugs and wires, I will pay someone to do it--and I expect to pay about $400 or so, as that is about the going rate as best understand.2000 Z-28 Convertible, neutral leather interior and neutral top, hotchkis STB, SLP Bowtie Grill, WhisperLid, K&N, cold air induction

When I got my SLP LM and headers I had them installed at my buddies dealership(he works there not owns). I asked him if I should just do the plugs and wires while everything is apart. He checked GM book time and it was 5 hours. And if a service mechanic works at $60-70/hour you could pay $300-350 just for labour. Then the price of plugs and wires on top of that. So we decided to get his Dad to do it for $200. It was $120 for my plugs and wires. From now on I will do it myself for sure.97 SS #C007

Mine took the good part of 10 hours but really all that needs removed is the starter and alternator and your set now that I know how to do it I don't think its that big of job really, and I think you'll get alot of different opinions on the wires but unless you have alot of mods AC's are fine.1994 Firebird Formula, M6, Fan switch, 160 thermostat, Pacesetter LT headers, Morosso CAI, TB bypass, True duals.

Well, I'm using NGK-TR55s with Taylor Spiro Pro 8 mm wires...after 2 years, no problems. However, ever since I installed the wires/plugs, I have been seeing the ABS INOP light so I'm not sure if it's due to interference of the wires? I can't see how I destroyed anything when I changed them.
I think I made record time when I did them recently...just takes practice.
The first time I've ever done it was on my T/A, took almost 8 hours. I learned a lot though. Second pass was on Steve 93Z's sister's 96 Z28, which took about the same time. The last time I did it, it took 2 hours for all 8 plugs and 1 wire. It would have taken only 1-2 more at the most for the wires...so my estimate is 4 hours for everything - only because I have experience and thin arms where I didn't have to drop the y-pipe.
So my suggestion...the first time(s) take a long time, but once you know where everything is, it should cut the time in half.94 Black T/A GT, Advanced Induction 355, 3200 stall, built 4L60E, Moser 9", Baer Brakes, Shooting for 11s...

I had my plugs replaced a month ago, choice of NGK tr55 $19 at stealth perforamnce, it took 2 mechanics 30 miuntes and $50 bucks extra, at the same time i had my oil change done (synthetic) and my rear lower arms replaced(my parts) total $140.
$500 is a little steep , i think.1993 TA SOLD

Hey Phantom! Ignore the rest of the posts. You got about an average deal.
Try and find the back 2 plugs on the passenger side and you will understand why its so expensive.
The GM plugs and the NGK's are about the best on the market.

I changed my plugs my self, well, 5 of them, i'm changing the middle one on the drivers side this up-comming monday in my Auto-tech class (they have fancy and expensive tools there) to change those 5 plugs it took me from 8am till roughly 5:45pm. And i'm not new at this Auto-mechanics stuff
In fact it took me less time to remove the engine from an 83' Datsun 200SX, and tear down about 3/4 of the engine.
So remember guys,
#1. Dissasemble car.
#2. Pound head on wall.
#3. Wipe the tears from your eyes and realize that this process that normally takes 20 minutes tops on a 79' Chevy truck will take you 7 - 10 hours (or more)
#4. After clearing the tears from your eyes again either: Prepare for the long haul, or prepare to hand your local mechanic a large check.
Either way it's gonna cost you....love you GM but next time....Please! Think!
