  • Weekend Road Trip

I just took a road trip this past weekend -- from Holland, MI to Atlanta, GA. Drove down Sunday, drove back on Tuesday. I had to miss two days of class (I was heart-broken) but I was down there for a career conference job fair... I am thinking I want to get a job down south somewhere. GEICO has an office in Lakeland, FL which would be nice

Anyways, here are the road trip stats:
    785 miles.
Drive-time: 10 hours, 45 minutes (This includes 2 stops for gas, one stop was a little longer because I stopped at the Sonic in Bowling Green, KY to grab a burger to eat in the car)
    Average speed: 73 mph
Average Fuel economy: 34 mpg (this was in my 2001 Saturn SC2... 5th gear at 80 mph is like 3400 RPMs )

I think I made pretty good time!

The route was I-75 north out of Atlanta to Chattanooga, I-24 west to Nashville, I-65 north all the way through Indianapolis to Gary, I-94 East into Michigan to Benton Harbor, I-196 north/east to Holland.
Former Ride: 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 - 345 rwhp, 360 rwtq... stock internally.

    Current Ride: 2006 Subaru Legacy GT Limited - spec.B #312 of 500

That's pretty good Jay. Best time I did from Greensboro, NC to Livonia was 9 hr 45 min. I usually go through W. Virginia but I am begining to think that KY is better than OH. OH roads are SO BAD.

Change that to Ohio cops and Ohio drivers are so bad...

seriosuly... 65 mph through flat farmland????? And people actually go 65!!!! You can set cruise at 70, and pass people all the way through the state!

Well, I was referring to the 95% saturation of orange cones in Ohio but the Staties are hell and getting caught behind a horse-drawn carriage REALLY Sucks.

Steaming Piles of Horse Poo along the sides of the road is kind of amusing though.

Oh, one thing that was really funny...

almost as soon as I crossed into Michigan, it started snowing. It was starting to snow pretty hard by Benton Harbor, but the roads were still OK from a northerner's perspective. I was following a rabbit who was doing like 85. We get into the left lane to pass these two cars who were clearly spooked by the snow. They were probably doing about 40... they were from California It is funny watching people who have never driven in snow before get freaked out, lol... I watched in my rear-view mirror as car after car just went whizzing by them, I would have loved to have been in that car to hear their thoughts, hahahaha...
