  • Need Advice and torque

Well I decided that I will do the smart thing and stop spending money on my Integra GSR and start looking for a 98+ Trans Am. I need torque and nothin beats the sound of a throaty exhaust on a V8, oh yeah, and they're FASTER.

Just want some advice on what to look out for and performance specs. I was looking at probably a 98 Formula because it has all the go fast goodies that the trans am does and is within my price range ($9k-11K). I will tell you now I need to get more familiar with the difference between years and between Trans Am/Formula/Firehawk models. But I would really like a 98 Formula with the WS6 option.

If anyone has any suggestions please chime in, Sorry for the noobish post.

Oh, and I have a '95 Integra GSR for sale if for some reason someone wants one.

I don't mean to be unappreciative of you joining our forum, but naming yourself "torqueless" and on your first post trying to sell a '95 Integra GSR might not be the most effective way to gain popularity. Just my opinion.

Other than that welcome to our forum

      Welcome

98+ f-bodies feature the LS1 -- which you probably already know.

The Formula and the Trans Am share the same engine. The Formula does not have the added weight of the high-profile spoiler, sideskirts, front fascia, or leather (power?) seats that the Trans Am does. Basically, the Formula looks like the base Firebird, but has the beastly engine lurking under the hood

The Formula was available with the WS6 option from 1998 thru 2000. The 2001 and 2002 Firebirds were only available with the WS6 package in Trans Am trim. The Firehawk is an SLP car -- like the Camaro SS. It has a less restricitve intake and exhasut -- and has the optional better suspension. The Firehawk is advertised at 345 HP, and as far as 98+ models are concerned, I believe it has always been offered on both the Trans Am and Formula trim levels.

The LS1 has also undergone some changes through the years... the 98 and 99 LS1s were the same. The 2000 LS1 was slighty different, and the general consensus is that the 01 and 02 LS1s were the most powerful of all. They have less restrictive emissions provisions, the LS6 intake manifold, and a hotter cam.

Hope this helps... good luck in finding your perfect car

You can get a good ride for $11k.

Test drive as many as you can stand. There is an amazing disparity. There are pristine rides for 15K that won't crack 14's in the 1/4 and cars for 5k that will bust 12's. Be selective.

And whatever you do, don't build an imposter car 'cause wolfman will eat you alive.

You have a point, but why deny the obvious

And I don't really plan on finding a buyer on this forum, but who knows.

          Thanks for the replies guys!
