  • general question--autozone-computer code check

I think it was atozone that used to check any service engine codes teh computer was throwing at no cost to the customer. Do they still do that? My daughters VW bug is throwing a code and teh dealer wants $85 to check it and tell her whats wrong

I took my Cutlass there about two years ago when the check engine light was on. When I got there to have the check it the light wouldnt come on so the gave me a jumper key and a book with codes in it.

Keep in mind that if it is an OBDII car, that they most likely will not be able to do this for you. I believe that all vehicles 1996 and up were required to move to OBDII.... Call before you go...

Autozone here in TX can read OBDII codes, and like mentioned above it is free.

I believe it is just the opposite. They only scan OBD-II and don't scan anything in California.

She was able to get it scanned at Checker in Phoenix. They said it was some type of air code, suggesting it was just a misread by teh computer form a minor exhaust hiccup or something. They siad it should reset after a numebr of starts. Does this sound reasonable???
