  • Fuel Filter Replacement Sked?

How often do you all replace the fuel filter. There's no mention of it in the owner's manual that I can see. It's been 10k and 1 year since the last time I did it.

It's crazy cold outside and I'm taking the car in to get the alignment and trans fluid flush, so it's a good opportunity to get it done if it's needed.

      Changing Fuel Filter

I have the big GM shop manual and it says there is no replacement interval for it. I am thinking of doing it but not sure how hard it is going to be. It would really suck if I twisted the fuel line.

Is the shrader valve in the same place on the 3800 V6?

No, but I think it might be on the front of the RH fuel rail. Hopefully, easy to spot.

There should be a replacement instruction in the GM shop manual. I suspect that the LS1 setup may be a little different than the LT1 instruction that Rob posted, since the fuel system is quite a bit different in the LS1.... not sure though. Maybe an LS1 owner could pitch in for your guidance....

For relieving the pressure would this work: pull the fuel pump fuse and start the engine, then let it die from no fuel. I seem to remember doing that on the Sunbird or Citation a long time ago and it worked but this car's ssytem is different.

If you can disable the pump, that method should also work.

fuel filter replacement takes about 10 min its so easy!! i think all you need is a 19mm and 18mm wrenches jack up the car unscrew the line and un clip the otehr end. make sure you have a bucket under it you loose about a cup of gas. its so simple and the filter cost between 10-25 bucks and i have notived a huge improvement in acceleration. (i had the same filter for 90000 miles @_@

I think every 15k is pretty reasonable.

its really easy. Just open your fuel-tank cap to release the pressure before you start working on the filter. It was the first thing i ever did on my car and i didn't know jack about cars back then. its nothing to sweat over.

Actually it is...it's same...friend has a 00 bird and it's exactly the same...

5 minutes tops...you'll get a fuel bath, but don't be a si$$y...just do it...you'll be glad you did.
