  • tach fuse

    Hi
I 'm installing a autometer 5" tach on my 74 TA. It said to in stall a 4 amp fuse in the line. My question if I run a wire direct for the battery to the tach with a 4 amp fuse would it pop becase the the battery has 650 amp ? Do I need to add some thing to drop the amps to the fuse ? I don't want to fry the new tach.

    Thx
    Jeff

The tach will only draw enough amperage to power itself and no more. Instead of having to run a wire all the way to the battery why couldn't you just tie in to the fuse panel from underneath the dash? Just a suggestion.

Fast T/A is right! The battery can supply up to 650 amps. The tach will not draw more than four amps or it will pop the fuse. There should be a terminal on the fuse block that is ignition switched. That way the tach is not drawing power with the engine off. Still use the fuse.
