  • My Engine light is bummin me out

I have a 97 Trans Am. It is low mileage and I have never had a problem with it....until two days ago. My clutch recently went bad, and I replaced it on friday. Well i am driving around, and my engine light comes on out of nowhere. Well the guy at autozone said that it is a code 400, which is something to go with exhaust and he told me to check my hoses and EGR. Well i did and i cant find a problem, can anyone help? Also, my clutch only has 40 miles on it, and i have to break it in for 400 miles, but when i get on the gas a little more than usual, it makes a grinding noise, is this normal for a new clutch, or am i going to be taking a my clutch apart again soon, someone please let me know.

What kind of exhaust do you have on the car? Its not unusual for OBD-II cars (96/97) to set an SES light for low EGR flow. Particularly if the car has an aftermarket exhaust system, that lowers the backpressure in the system. If you have a stock exhaust, check and see if there might have been a "recall" for the EGR problem. If so, the dealer would fix it for free.

Clutch shouldn't make noise, whether its old or new.

I have a flowmaster 80 series muffler. That could be the EGR thats setting it off, but what about the clutch problem?
