  • 4th Gen chassis question

I recently purchased an S&W 8point roll bar, well as I found out it isn't a "plug and play" like I thought. The good news is that the bars are a little long. The question is waht is tthe best way to tie the roll hoop into the chassis. I believe i found a goo place where I can tie the rear bars into the roll hoop, its just a matter of tieing in the roll hoop to the chassis and driver/passenger bars into the front subframes.

    Thanks

Do you have an NHRA rules book? They have all the requirements for mounting the roll bar spelled out in the book.... the hoop can't be more than 6" behind the helmet, where the rear braces have to connect to the hoop has certain height requirements, the sidebars must pass the arm between the shoulder and the elbow, the cross-bar can't be more than 4" below the shoulders, etc. They also describe the size and thickness of the plates that must be used to weld or bolt the hoop to the floor.

I have mine right inside the rear edge of the door opening, hard against the plastic panel, so that it is practically invisible from outside the car. But it is almost too far behind the seat... I have to slide the seat all the way back to have the helmet within the required distance at tech (not like anyone ever checks, but if you eventually go to a full cage and require certification, they will check). There is also a requirement that the hoop be 3" above the helmet, and that is impossible in a 4th Gen, even if you put the hoop up against the headliner (like mine is). I know they wouldn't accept George's for certification until he bought a Kirkey aluminum seat and bolted is directly to the floor, so his helmet was 3" below the hoop (when he slouched a lot).
