Monsoon Coming

I rode in a TA with a Monsoon stereo in it and it made my stereo sound like Jed Clampet strumming on a washtub banjo.

What exactly is different btwn a standard factory stereo and the Monsoon? If I could find all the components I would switch my system to it.

Honestly, I have both the Monsoon on my TA and the non-Monsoon in the GTA and don't notice much of a difference besides an amp and channels...I believe the headunit is the same, but routed to an amp (it's in the spare tire compartment), then channelled (crossover) to the tweeters and woofers, monsoons get 10 speakers.

I replaced the fromt speakers in the TA and have a dedicated 10" RF...the GTA got all of it's speakers replaced (all Polk all around)...both sounds the same to me. Except the GTA is muddled a litte because it lacks dedicated tweeters...

I get crazy compliments..."amazing sound", "it's sounds sooo good"...you know. I like the quality sound...not the so much bass you can't hear the music deal...

I've been wondering if my Formual has the Monsoon system. I have six speaker pods and the CD player with an equilizer. My CD player dosn't say Monsoon on it though it says Delco.

Mine looks exactly like this except it doesn't say Monsoon on it. Are the head units the same?

I've also been wondering if my car has the monsoon or if the car was just done by the dude before me. How many speakers did the Monsoon have? I have 9 speakers including a 10" in the back. Also did it came with a amp mounted on the rear deck? I am pretty sure that the dude did this himself but it looks really proffesional and could be stock. But I have an aftermarket head unit. ALSO did they have speakers by the kick panels in the front? By my left foot when Im driving, kinda annoying since Im 6'4. Thanks.

a monsoon will have "monsoon" next to Pontiac

it's 10 speakers

4 in front (mids and tweets)

2 behind (woofers)

4 in back...(mids and tweets)

Well, I will tell you...

my 97 T/A comes with DELCO head unit and 10 speakers and the CD Changer harness ready for... in the back from factory; but, when i wanted to add a Delco CD changer, it did not work. The reason, I needed a real MONSOON head unit with the chip to drive the CD changer. The REAL MONSOON head unit is P/N 09380122. I learned that after spent a few bucks :-(

I have the same question...

In 96, the radio did NOT say Monsoon, but has the 10 speaker system. Additionally, the subs mounted in the rear seat panels are powered by a separate amp.

In 97, the Monsoon name suddenly appeared. The radio looked identical and the car had (what appears to be) the same 10 speakers. Was there any difference?

The only thing I can determine is that Monsoon is a trade marked name....like Pioneer or Bose. Are the speakers made by MOnsoon?? Perhaps Pontiac had used this same system in 96, but Monsoon did not pay to have their name advertised until 1997. Anyone know for sure???

So since my head unit says says delco it's not monsoon. Then do I have a completly differant speaker set up? My car appears to have 10 speaker's in six differant spots, but I've never heard of a 10 speaker system that wasn't monsoon.

Mine has the 10 speaker system too. It doesn't sound as good as the 99 I was in the other day though.

Hey evryone, My 93 TA came with the 10 speaker sys. but i replaced my haed unit with a sony aftermarket one, but the woofers wont work, even when i hook up the amp cable, any ideas?
