TransGo works great. Puts a smile on my face every time I get into my car, and puts fear into the passengers! Well worth doing if you have an A4 IMHO. If you do it, best bet is to change the tranny mount with the SLP 1LE mount.1995 Firebird Formula

I had the TransGo kit in my '97 T/A and I can tell you it was a blast!!
The car had ported heads and intake, HOT Cam, 1.6 RR, headers, 3.73's and tuning from Ed Wright. It would chirp the tires on even a part throttle 1-2 shift. On WOT runs, 1-2 was massive wheel spin even with the 315's and 2-3 would still chirp pretty good
I was affraid to put anything more that the stock converter in it because my G/F drove the car ONCE after I had the work done and got a little sideways........scared the cr@p out of both of us2002 Trans Am Firehawk #C026

I put a TransGo shift kit into my 98 A4...man what a difference. At the same time I went from the stock 245 tires to 275, and it totally rips them loose on the 1-2 shift. If you have an A4, I HIGHLY recommend it. Let me know if you have any questions, as the install is still pretty fresh in my head.98 Arrest Me Red Z28 - A4 with 2 washers and B&M SuperCooler, SLP CAI and airbox lid, K&N filter, smooth bellows, WS6 polished wheels (17" x 9"), Power Slot front rotors

I would love to hear the overview of the install. This is the first I have heard of the TransGo kit. It sounds awsome and not too expensive. I especially like the idea of installing it myself, so please enlighten us on the install. Thanks!!2001 Sunset Orange Metallic w/Tan interior WS6 Trans Am, 33k, M6, Borla, SLP lid

I'm considering going with the trans go as well, along with an aux tranny cooler.
I have already had my shift points firmed as part of SLP's PCM4 tuning. What will be the benefit of the shift kit?Living in the pools, They soon forget about the sea...— Rush, "Natural Science" (1980)

I have an aux tranny cooler that I am planning on installing soon myself. The install of the shift kit was relatively straight forward. I have not done a whole lot of involved work on my car yet, but decided to go ahead and try the tranny kit install with the help of a friend. It looked quite daunting when we began, but all-in-all was relatively easy (especially after watching the video Trans-Go includes with the kit multiple times). I am not sure what the difference between PCM tuning and the shift kit is, as I have never had my PCM programmed for harder shifts, but my guess would be the shift kit is much better. As I implied in my above post, the shift kit makes an AMAZING difference. With bald 245 tires on my stock Z, the tires wouldn't even chirp on the 1-2 shift. Then, with the shift kit installed and brand new 275 tires on my still stock Z, it will tear the tires loose at WOT on the 1-2 shift. As far as specifics about the install, I would be more than happy to answer any questions you have. In case you haven't caught the basics of what I am trying to say, I highly recommend installing the Trans-Go shift kit if you have an A4. One other thing...I had problems with really hard 1-2 shifts when it shouldn't be trying to shift hard (i.e. nearly no throttle) before we installed the shift kit, and those problems are all gone after the install.

What basically happens is that the PCM reads the throttle opening and adjusts fluid pressure in the transmission to give a firmer apply of the bands and a quicker shift. The performance button on some models does this manually. A shift kit re-directs the fluid producing the same results, but with less damaging effects as raising fluid pressure alone. Transmissions can be reworked without shift kits to perform the same way. My trans builder doesn't like shift kits in 4L60Es. Why? According to him, the increased line pressures wear down the parts quicker. The unit he built for me (without a shift kit) blows the tires away on a 1-2 shift and it still doesn't feel harsh. I also still squeek a 2-3 shift a WOT. The rest of the time it still shifts smooth and you wouldn't know it's dual personality. I haven't heard of a negatives from a transgo kit other than be careful doing the install. It's not easy on your back in the driveway.
