Dude, you need to write a letter stating exactly what you are going to do with your car, show, race, etc and even include a list of events you will be participating in and tell the sponsor what you have done to the car thus far. Also tell them what plans you have for the car, include pictures, a lot of pictures. Call them up and talk to them after you send in your package. Manufacturers do not "look" for people. And they definitely do not just give away their parts. I was sponsored by Eibach and Borla for both of my previous two cars, my 96 WS6 and my WRX. K&N also sponsored my WRX.
Just another tidbit of info, my WS6 was pretty much a full on show car when I picked up both of my sponsors. And the only reason they hooked me up with the WRX when it was stock was because of the past experience I had with them and them knowing that I would actually take my WRX to another level as I did with the WS6. K&N engineering has their offices right where I used to live so I bugged the R&D guy for weeks, and then one of the other WRX's they were using backed out of the intake development and he called me up.
Good luck, but it is not easy.
