Know where to find them and how much. All the talk about Vandalism and Sugar in gas tanks has me concerned.

Any auto parts store carries them. You might even find them at KMart or Walmart but I'd go to a parts chain. Should be in stock. I'm thinking, no more than $20.

      Highly recommended.

Old schoolers here will remember my story. I went to a party in the Santa Cruz mountains about 5 years ago and the neighbor kids were cramming dirt/rock/pine cone needles/etc in gas tanks. Probably lucky for me that we never found out who did it.

Thats when I discovered the pure joy of dropping a 4th gen fuel tank I replaced the pump and strainer, washed out the tank and put it back together. Fuel gauge didn't work anymore.

A lot of stuff had been vandalized and my friend made a claim on his home owners insurance. If I had a shop receipt, I would have been repaid, but they said a fuel pump receipt and pics of the job I did weren't enough. Did not have time for a $300 small claims deal, so I gave up the claim after my appeal failed. Instead of them figuring I saved them around $500 by doing it myself, they figured saving $800 and denying the claim was even better.

Get a cap now! Local Autozone, Kragen, Pep BOys, whatever ya got.

Just make sure you get the correct, unvented cap specifically for your car. Stant makes them. As Norm noted.... any auto parts store should have them.

I posted the link in another thread. It's lists some part #s for F-Bodys. Mentiones a lockable GM gas cap.

I did a search and found the number on somebody's Impala site. I searched just with that part # and came up with this link

Any auto parts store should have a Stant locking gas cap for about $10.

If your local GM parts department doesn't stock that one, ask for GM Part #22660006. I've had it on my Hawk since the day I bought the car without any problems.

Take your time taking the teather off the old cap.........you may need to wait for slightly warmer weather. It should just slip over the new cap and you're on your way.

I already bought mine at Kragen...$16.99 + tax for a non-vented stant locking gas cap. If only I would have had it 2 1/2 weeks ago...

I also bought a locking gas cap for my car as well when I first bought it. Very good investment I would recommend it. I bought my locking gas cap at my local auto parts store (Kragen). I think it was like 12 I believe. I can't remember exactly the price but it is not too expensive.
