It is kinda sad, but you gotta give it to Subaru for their all-wheel drive WRX. AWD cars can get great acceleration, there's no denying that.1991 Chevy Camaro RS (Is it plum or purple?)

In one of the auto mag a couple of months ago they had the WRX STi up against the 03 cobra and it ran head to head with it. it beat the cobra by like .09 in the 1/4 mile and kicked its but on the course. so i got to give it up to the wrx

That isn't sad..... remember that our cars will still be running after 10 years when the all the imports of the same age are finding their way to the scrapyard. AWD may launch well, but it takes abuse to the powertrain to get them to run that way. They won't do it that way for too long before parts start breaking. The full race versions take a $20K trans to hold up to a basically stock motor. What do you think happens behind a stock trans?

I gotta disagree. Toyotas and Hondas run forever. I have 2 frineds with over 150,000 miles on Toyota trucks (1991 & 1992) with *no* problems whatsoever. No bad alternators, waterpumps, *nothing* except typical maintenance. Another friend with 215,000 and he just had to have the heads rebuilt and the oil pump replaced. Cylinders still look good compression is good.. All 3 of these trucks have the original transmissions in them.Originally posted by Joe 1320

Launching a f-bod abuses the drivetrain as well. I hear of transmission problems all the time on our cars. We fix them, and keep going just like the import guys will. 10 years old is not really old for a car today. My 1994 is 10 years old, and still smells like new. A 1994 Honda, Toyota or other quality import is still a good car. These cars are not falling apart at any higher a rate than american cars of the same years.
Here is where I'm sure we will agree.... Import cars are not destined to become classics. When was the last time you drooled over a classic Toyota? Maybe some time in the future, when the current kids are in their 40's they will put some value on a nice old Honda. I kinda doubt it though. Our American pony and muscle cars represent a passion and love that is not found in the imports.Tracy

I was gonna say.......Imports are known for running forever. It's why people buy them. I have seen lots of Hondas go for 300k with just routine maintenance. But our cars like Tracy said will be much more appreciated in ten years, especially since of the discontinuation of the 4th gen.Originally posted by TraceZ

Imports may last a while but they will never hold up to the knid of torque a V-8 will. They where never designed to. They would be way too heavy to stand up the the high HP and low end torque that a V-8 would. There drive shafts and gears would break in no time. That is the delema of the car designer. Make it too big and and it will be heavy. Make it too light and it will break. Plus you have to keep the costs down so every one can afford it. Hense the fact you have to spend money to go fast.LT4KM, 160' TS, MAF ends, TB-bs, 1.6 R/R, SLP CAI, LCA, tierod, 17x9"F/R, 275/40R17 tires. WS6 Muffler, LS1 DS. 21mm rear sway bar. Soon to be LT4 heads, intake, & HOT cam
