  • Cam Suggestion

Well, I am trying to find a decent cam for my Camaro (91 RS, 5.0L TBI). I'm getting the block bored .030 over and I want to add some more performance while I have the chance. The cam has to be roller, though, which is my problem. Any suggestions?

How concerned are you at keeping the car streetable?

I want my car to be pretty streetable. All I want is some extra punch when I gun it.

I think the Crane Cams 2030 should work for my car. Is there anyway to tell if the valves will hit the piston just by knowing the cam specs? I have heard of this happening to some people.

I'm just assuming that you are keeping your heads/intake stock. I wouldn't go too much over that CC 266. You might be able to use the the CC 276 but you will additional tuning issues.

It sounds like with your mods that the CC 276 might not get you much more power than the CC 266. Bigger cams require more air and more fuel and until you port your heads and/or get headers, I wouldn't go too much larger than something in the range of the CC 276.

I think the Crane Cams 2030 should work for my car. I gonna have to order a camshaft soon, because the engine is almost ready to be rebuilt.

OK I found it. That cam probably will give a 10 hp increase at the most, if you want a litle more performance I would go a little bigger. IMHO

Now I just gotta save up for it. I forgot how much more roller camshafts cost than regular camshafts.
