91 camaro v-8 305 automatic trans. 700r4..... replaced the speed sensor due to failure in the speedometer. didnt fix the problem. could it be a bad wire? cluster failure? faulty speed sensor? burnt out gear in the tranny. all other gauges still work. what's the problem?

I would check the drive and driven gears in the trannie.

The speedometer comes on every now and then, usually when driving on the interestate, flickers on and off. never starts up when driving thru town? could there be a bad connection?

I can't believe it! I have almost the exact same problem. My speedometer won't work for about 2 minutes when I turn the car on and then the SES light comes on and another minute later the speedo will jump up and start working.
