  • Is it that hard to tell the difference..?

bored so I thought I'd surf and lurk in other forums...

apparently, mustang owners (no flaming here) can't tell the difference from a v6,formula,ta,ws6...

    http://www.3.8mustang.com/forum/show...4&page=1&pp=30

it's not that hard...the exhuast alone is a dead give away...

Yeah, the V6's are easy to spot from, like you said, the exhaust, the wheels, the stance, and the lack of Z28/Trans-am/Formula badges. I notice the same thing from many people in general. I get asked all the time if mine is a 6 or an 8, it always surprises me that they can't tell by looking at it.

My biggest problem with layman ignorance is that everyone thinks I have a Camaro. I say "I have a TransAm" They give me that "Whatever" look. Now, I don't have anything against my brother Camaro owners, but IF I HAD WANTED ONE I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE. I realize that the difference is mostly skin deep, but there are enough differences to easily tell them apart. Oh, well, I guess that's why I hang out here with the enlightened ones. Screw the ignorant masses - let them wallow in their mediocrity.

I've had several people looked at the "scrawled" Formula V8 sticker on the back of my bumper, and ask my why I "only bought the V6".........

The 8 does kinda look like a 6 on first glance. It could confuse a newbie.

My car looks pretty much like injuneer's car (minus all the cool stuff) and alot of people think its a V6 because of the slanted 8 on the rear bumper! so your're not the only one! ALTHOUGH when its running no one has mistaken it for a V6.
One of my friends where I used to work kept calling my car a corvette. Now, calling it a camaro I could understand, but a corvette? Upon asking her why she thinks its a vette she replied "because of the popup headlights." I responded with "So you think his MR2 is a corvette as well?" silence.

It doesn't even matter sometimes how it sounds. One day a buddy and I went to the shop in PA to pick my car up. We load two drums of VP Racing Fuel into the back of his pickup, I get in my car, and I follow him back to NJ. The car was in the shop for the Gear Vendors O/D install, and after they put the GV in, the Y-pipe would no longer fit..... so the exhaust system consists of the Borla XR-1's hanging on the end of the header collectors.... not even a turndown.... it is LOUD.

We are sitting in heavy rush hour traffic, on RT 18 in NJ, a few miles from E'town Raceway Park, and its a race night. The Formula's exhaust is resonating off everything in sight...... I am getting "thumb's up" from fellow F-Body drivers (and even a few import owners). So... two guys in an Eclipse convertible pull up next to me, and the driver starts revving the engine..... and its a newer model, not even one of the older models that actually had a turbo available. He just sits there revvin' the snot out of it, the light changes, and he flies away from me, slamming on the brakes about 50 yards ahead when he gets to the next traffic jam. I just ignore the whole thing.

I'm sure he went home and told his buddies he had just dusted a Firebird......

I've had the same thing happen to me- my T/A was built without the "up-level" spoiler, so people constantly ask me if my cars a 6. ( Seems like no one knows that T/A's were built like this- one guy was being smart and asked me why I would put Trans Am badges on a V-6 car) It's kinda funny actually- I had a Jeep Cherokee with a flowmaster race me once. Think he figured it out after I went into second spinning though-
