  • Anyone else have the rear hatch rattle?

I have a 97 ta that has about 108xxx on the clock. I just had some sfc's welded on that took care of a good portion of the rattles...........but that rear hatch still rattles like crazy when i hit a small bump. Does anyone know anyway of fixing this?
    thanks!

It's usually the spare tire and/or jack. 98% of the time that is...

You might be able to adjust the latch down a little and tighten it up. If it is not a daily driver, you can pop the hatch when it is not being used.

You could also try unscrewing the two rubber stops a little also.

I was able to fix this by unscrewing the rubber plugs on each side of the hatch. Also, when closing the hatch don't slam it shut. I close it and then gently push down until it clicks. I've seen knuckleheads slam the bejesus out of the hatch to close it, which will certainly make things rattle after a while.

Its hard to imagine, but our cars are super-duper air tight...trying to close our hatches is hard, but if you open your door or window...the hatch closes with half the effort.

Wished the 4th gen had the hatch pull down like the late 3rd gen...it's so much easier and cooler!

You are fighting air pressure when you try to slam it with the windows up and doors closed. By opening the window or door, you are giving the air a place to escape.

I have a rattle in the rear of my car, I'm pretty sure its the spare/jack I have it all as tight as can be and it still rattle's. Is removing the spare the only way to stop the rattleing? If so I dont think its a good idea, never know when you might need it.

I chased a problem like this for a while and it turned out to be my fold down rear seats. The latches that hold them in the upright position are not very tight and are metal to metal. You might want to try folding them down to make sure this is not at least part of the problem.
