  • got back from the tracks.

I'm sure many of you read my other post asking for launching tips coz i was going to race my car at the track. Maaaan they didn't let me race my car. me being a newb to this and all it turns out i shoulda been there 4 hours earlier coz they run the stock cars by themselves much earlier in the day when no ones around (probably to avoid smoe embarassment ) but it was still good to go and watch the action. So many cars broke down it wasn't funny. there was a crazy ass nissan patrol that lifted the front end pretty damn high and on the launch as well as a skyline r32 that ran 9.62 seconds and a whole lotta nissan patrols and skylines running in the 10's .
Strangely enough there were actually 13 nissan patrol drag cars, 6 of which broke down while warming up and burning up the tyres before the race one actually had its engine explode while it was at the line revving and for the lights. it was pretty funny
The oddest thing of the night was also these two brand new rolls royce coupes which belonged to sheikhs and actually got on the drag strip and one punched out a time in the mid 13's.

Of course camaros were there representin. an ls1 smoked a lumina SS. This was another funny race coz the lumina launched and smoked the wheels and spun for like 100 metres leaving smoke and burnout lines everywhere. It just couldn't get a grip and the camaro decimated it anyway, plus it looked oh so sweet in its bodykit There was also an awesome looking and sounding 1st gen camaro drag car and 2nd gen camaro drag car. they looked and sounded oh so sexy but didn't get to race for some reason.
unfortunately i had no camera with me but next time i'll definitely take a cam and post some pics. Sorry its long, but i just thought i'd share for any of you out there who may be interested.

That is probably the best way to learn how to drag race. I used to go all the time to San Antonio Raceway and just watch how everybody did things like doing their burnouts, staging, where to shutoff, where to get your timeslip, where to tech in, etc.! And it is a blast like said!

by the way, at the track they were spraying this stuff on the tyres of the cars before they ran to make the tyres more sticky. does anyone know what this stuff is??

Probably VHT Track Bite "traction compound". It can be applied to the tires to make them stickier, or is generally sprayed on the first few hundred feet of the track for more "grip", as part of "track prep". $30/gallon in Summit.

Most NHRA, IHRA, and NASCAR tracks actually spray the tracks down with 1 layer of a 50/50 mix of track bite and methanol and then a 2nd layer of straight track bite!

          Good Stuff!
